A big part of the counterculture movement was open mindedness. And many at the time (and many more now) knew the positive affects of LSD on your brain. Timothy Leary was the forefront of phycedelic drug activism with the famous quote "Turn on, Tune in, Drop out."
claiming that LSD can open your mind to new consciousness which will liberate you from the confines of society that kids in the 60's felt bound to. LSD is shown to activate parts in your brain that usually don't communicate.

The counterculture movement of the 60’s was very influential in america for 3 reasons. This movement made strides in government reformation, created a new age of music and art drug use, and encouraged freedom in a new way of life in america. This movement originally took off because of the frustrated youth, angry about the predetermined life their parents forced them in. this movement started as a way for youth to get back at their parents. This is why this movement fought for lots of different causes.

The counterculture movement of the 60’s was a revolution because through multiple forms of rebellion, it changed the relationship between the US government and its citizens permanently.

Music

Music was a vital part of this movement because it fueled the fires that the youth of the 60's built up over time. This was seen in Rock and Roll music, which was pretty young at the time. There were many reasons why this kind of music was so important to kids of the 60's. Mainly because it wasn't like traditional music at the time so parents weren't fond of it. It was a way for kids to rebel against their parents. Counter culture rock also influenced youth because it encouraged being unique and fighting back against the ones at power.

The second reason the counterculture movement was a revolution was because of all the movements that this culture was associated with. This included the civil rights movement, peace movement, drug decriminalization movements and made strides in marriage freedom and women's rights. The counterculture movement did not only fight for one cause, they fought for many. This shows that this movement wasn't made to fix one problem, but to really change america for the better.

The counterculture movement was one of the first movements to not only resist against the societal norms the youth’s past generation created, but to support change, open mindedness and resistance. This movement may have led future generations to fight against their society in hope for change.

Because of these 3 reasons culture, multi-issue activism, and rebellion. I would argue that the counterculture movement of the 60’s was very influential, not just at the time, but today. Many of the things that the 60’s introduced we still find today, such as women's and black rights movement protests, marijuana decriminalization and rock and roll music. This counterculture society encouraged change and rejected control from our government which are still ideas many hold today. This new wave of acceptance brought by youth in the 60’s provided a great standard for youth today and showed kids that they had more than 1 option, and power in their society. This movement may not have solved all the problems they fought for, but many of the protests then can still be seen trying to make change today.
