If this book is being read in a classroom, the students can create an extension for this. The students may be tasked with writing the next chapter and writing about the development of the new friendship. They can choose to include other characters from the book, but they must write about Virgil and Valencia. The students may also be tasked with choosing a perspective to write from. They can follow the example the book has set and write in first person, using Virgil or Valencia. The student may also choose to write in third person and write the next chapter from a whole new perspective.

Through a series of events and an altercation with Chet, Virgil finds himself hopeless, at the bottom a well in a small forest. This leaves it to the others to find him… or create challenges along the way. With some help and guidance from the universe, friendships develop, and a bully is set straight.

Students will need to be able to understand what fate exactly means, and they will have to develop an opinion on whether or not they believe in the actual existence of fate. After we have identified the instances in the book where fate came into play, I would have the students pick an important event in their lives, and decide whether or not they think fate played any part in it. If so, how? It's definitely a great read for students and it's a great way to introduce them to storytelling in this style. I personally do not believe in fate or destiny. I do however absolutely love the idea of it. I'm always trying to cling to things that tie our everyday life to something magical. I like to believe that there is something out there that is intervening into our existence. It gives our lives more mystery, hope, and comfort in a way. I had a hard time figuring out the overall passion of the book. It made sense at the conclusion of the story, as everything happened quickly towards the end. This was an inclusive book that had many kinds of characters that students would be able to relate to.
