When people started using machines instead of by hand. The steam boat allowed people to travel upriver faster and easier. The cotton grin was a faster way to make cotton easier instead of picking the seeds which takes a long time. Two positive effects are: the work is faster and easier. Takes less time and can make materials quicker. Two negative effects are needing more slaves and their prices going up. People not working or going in debt.

The South didn’t have one state population of over 1 million people. The South had over 4,000,000 slaves in all. The North didn’t want slavery while the South did. Slaves made up ⅓ of the population in the South. The North’s population was growing rapidly because of the flood of new immigrants from other countries.
