At the time the government was ruled by wealthy families and wealthy merchants. Since the givernment was led by these rich families and merchants competetiveness formed. All of the different cities battled for who had the best, wealthiest and most beautiful city. It actually led to many good things happening. An examplle would be the Medici family, they ruled the city of Florence, Italy, and since they were competeting with the other cities they wanted to make their city better than everyone else's. This led to them commisioning things like libraries, but that was not the main thing that they did. The thing that they did to make their city great was their banking, their city was banking central of all of Europe. They also created a standard currency that led to trading becoming much easier.

That would just be one example of how the government worked. But not only were they very competitive but they also had a large liking for art. This led to these wealthy families commissioning artists to create huge works of art all around the country.

The printing press was the invention of the century. Before the printing press was invented books were extremely hard to create. They were hand written by monks and took months to create one book. It led to the wealthy being the only people who could access these books. Since the books were so expensive very few people could actually get educated. Since all of this was going on people wanted changes, thats when the printing press was invented.

The printing press allowed for books to be created faster and ten times as cheap. Since the books were so much cheaper and faster to create books could be created for the masses. Since so many more people were getting educated there were many more advancements in technology and just new innovations.

The social systems in Europe were closed for centuries, until the renaissance was formed. The social classes in Europe became open systems. Since they became open systems people who actually deserved their places got into high ranking careers. Since it became open it let people get more opportunities which in turn led to more advancements and innovations. All-in-all having the social system become an open system led to Europe becoming an even place then it already was.

During the renaissance hard work was also valued. Since hard work was valued people were able to get high ranking careers because they worked hard and not because they were born into their spots.

Math doesn't sound like it would be a big factor in the development of the renaissance, but math was actually a big part in the development of the renaissance. One of the things that advancements in math contributed to was astronomy, because of advancements in math people were able to more precisely locate things in space, they were also able see further into space due to the new advancements in telescopes. Math was also a huge factor in architecture, math let people develop much more sturdy structures. Advancements in math also further developed architecture because people were able to create buildings with round roofs that wouldn't collapse in on itself. Math was alaso a big part in the development of maps and navigation. The advancements in math led to maps becoming more preciser which led to navigation much easier.

Trade was one of the big reasons why a renaissance was formed in Europe. Trade let ideas spread anywhere where there was trade, it led to great ideas spreading all across Europe, this let people with power realise and see what they could do to make their cities better. Not only were ideas spread but innovations were as well, people all across the country could learn or at least hear about these innovations and create something through that knowledge.

Not only was trade good for spreading ideas and innovations but it also made many people rich. Since there was so much trade happening Europe became very wealthy. Since Europe became so wealthy it led to patrons supporting artists and innovators, this led to many new innovations and new art techniques.

Geography was probably the biggest reason that the renaissance developed. One reason being is that there were so many port cities that allowed for trade all over Europe. The port cities allowed for many trade routes going through the water. Since the weather was very calm it allowed for a very long farming season, which led to more crops and food being produced which in turn led to less people starving. Another thing that calm weather allowed was the undisturbed trade routes. Since the cities were already very competitive towards each other when multiple cities also very similar trade routes it leads to them even becoming competitive to who has the best trading.

Because of the geography of Europe it allowed for trade to happen very easily. Since Europe is surrounded by water it allowed for lots of trade to occur over the sea, this also links to what we discussed earlier about how trade will spread ideas and innovations. Europe is very close to Asia, Middle East and Africa which led to innovations and ideas being spread throughout everywhere on land.

Innovations were a big deal when it came to the development of the renaissance, let me show you how. One of the biggest, if not the biggest innovation of century was the printing press, which we talked about earlier, let so many people get educated. Another huge innovation that we haven't mentioned yet is the geometric & military compass, this compass was used for many things such as helping bankers exchange currency, since bankers could exchange currency easier they got much richer which led to them supporting artists and inventors. Another use for the compass was for soldiers to fire their cannons more accurately, this led to them being able to protect their goods which were going to be used for trade.
