I explored inquiry in the Early years - The role of a teacher. I made connections to my time spent in a classroom and helping children explore objects and figure out what its is, rather than telling them what it is. As part of extensions, I got ideas on how a good provocation through an appropriate object/picture can lead children to deeper learning. The challenge that I am facing is how to make the best of this sea of information. There is so much to learn and read and I don't know how I am going to go through it all, as each area is so important and engaging. Being a teacher for early years I could really connect to the fact that play can initiate inquiry and children have natural desire to seek answers to their questions through play. While developing a culture of learning the first step is to look at the child as capable, knowledgeable, curious and competent learner.

The initial provocation has to be very engaging as this will help to take inquiry further.

Inquiry based learning needs a lot of personal attention as each extends his knowledge to a different level which is good. It takes more than a usual time and sometimes a whole class to explain something which is beyond our curriculum boundary. Another challenge is making learning exciting for those 1 or 2 less engaged children who might need a handholding or an extra push/attention. I would say IB is best but not easy. It needs a well detailed planning and skills to bring the best out of our students.
