It can cause sprains, strains, fractures, head injuries and deaths.</p></li><li><p>Slips, trips and falls account for more than 25% of all workplace injuries and affected more than 3,000 employees each year between 2014 and 2018.</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Slips</p><p>Falling on the same level due to loss of balance when there is too little friction between the foot and the floor. For example, when stepping on a wet or oily surface.</p><p><br></p><p>Trips</p><p>Falling on the same level due to loss of balance when:</p><ul><li><p>the foot collides with, strikes or hits an object in its path; or</p></li><li><p>one steps down unexpectedly from a higher to a lower surface (misstep).</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p>Falls</p><p>A downward movement, typically rapidly and freely, from a higher to a lower level.</p><p><br></p><p>PREVENTION</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Employer's Role</strong></p><p>You must:</p><ul><li><p>Conduct <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.mom.gov.sg/workplace-safety-and-health/safety-and-health-management-systems/risk-management">Risk Assessments (RA)</a> to eliminate or minimise slip, trip and fall risks.</p></li><li><p>Maintain a safe work environment (e.g. by selecting the right type of non-slip flooring and providing sufficient illumination at the workplace).</p></li><li><p>Provide employees with personal protective equipment (e.g. non-slip work shoes), training, instruction and supervision for relevant work activities.</p></li></ul><p>To improve workplace practices, you should also:</p><ul><li><p>Establish clear standards for workplace housekeeping and set an expectation for employees to maintain them. Refer to the <a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.tal.sg/wshc/-/media/tal/wshc/resources/publications/wsh-guidelines/files/wsh-guidelines-on-workplace-housekeeping.ashx">WSH Guidelines on Workplace Housekeeping</a> for more information.</p></li><li><p>Conduct routine workplace inspections to confirm that all hazards have been addressed, and to ensure that your risk control measures have been effectively implemented.</p></li><li><p>Encourage employees to report near-miss incidents so that you can prevent future accidents.</p></li><li><p>Encourage employees to submit ideas on slip, trip and fall prevention through a WSH staff suggestion scheme.</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Employee's Role</strong></p><p>You must:</p><ul><li><p>Adhere to safe work procedures and instructions.</p></li><li><p>Not endanger yourself or others with unsafe behaviour (e.g. running across a wet floor or using a handphone while walking down the stairs).</p></li><li><p>Use personal protective equipment (e.g. non-slip work shoes) provided by your company.</p></li></ul><p>To improve workplace practices, you should also:</p><ul><li><p>Clean up all spills promptly.</p></li><li><p>Keep walkways and staircases free of obstacles.</p></li><li><p>Keep the floor in the work area dry, clean and free from clutter.</p></li><li><p>Tape down power cords or cables to prevent tripping.</p></li><li><p>Report any hazards you spot (e.g. damaged floor tiles, curled mats), and place a warning sign to alert others before the hazard is removed.</p></li><li><p>Report all near misses and accidents promptly to your employer.</p></li><li><p>Submit suggestions on slip, trip and fall prevention.</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Safe Management of MINDEF Appointed Contractors (MACs):</strong></p><p><br></p><p>✅ Units engaging MACs are to brief and ensure contractors <strong>comply with Workplace Safety and Health Regulations</strong> <strong>including donning on their PPEs</strong> when performing work.</p><p>✅ Units are to <strong>stop any unsafe</strong> <strong>practices</strong> of contractors and <strong>feedback when</strong> <strong>non-conformances are observed.</strong></p><p>✅ Integrated Facility Management (IFM) are to ensure contractors <strong>stay within</strong> <strong>their demarcated work site</strong> and not stray into potential danger areas or interfere with training troops.</p><p>✅ Prior to the commencement of any work at weapon ranges, all contractors are required to check-in with IFMs, who will in turn <strong>inform the Range Warden/</strong> <strong>TRMC</strong>. Contractors are then required to <strong>book-in at TRMC on the actual day, before proceeding to the range.</strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Contractors' Safety: Working in Camp Compound</strong>:</p><p><br></p><p>✅ Units/Integrated Facility Management (IFM) are to <strong>brief and ensure contractors don on their essential PPE and comply with Workplace Safety and Health Regulations.</strong></p><p>✅ For working at heights, fall prevention systems must be <strong>connected to adequate or proper anchor points.</strong> Failure to do so may result in fatalities.</p><p>✅ Anyone who <strong>spots anything amiss </strong>in safety adherence, can<strong> call for a "Stop"</strong>to the activity and <strong>report to the authority</strong> (Camp Ops Manager / IFM / Unit POC).</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Lowloading Operations:</strong></p><p><br></p><p>✅ <strong>Two stabilising blocks</strong> must be available, one on each side of the lowloader before platforms are allowed to drive up/down the loading ramp. <strong>Failure to do so is a “No-Go”.</strong></p><p>✅ Lowloading operations must be <strong>supervised by an appointed</strong> <strong>OIC</strong>, covering both preparation and execution phase of the operations. He is also required to <strong>complete the safety</strong> <strong>checklist</strong>.</p><p>✅ OICs must ensure the civilian contractor <strong>adhere to all safety</strong> <strong>procedures</strong> before allowing him to proceed with the operation. During operations, OICs must remain alert and <strong>stop</strong> <strong>the contractor from</strong> <strong>proceeding</strong> upon spotting any incorrect practice.</p>]]></description>
