A: One idea I had was for each student to have a "feelings journal". Once or twice a day we can have 5 to 10 minutes of journaling time. Maybe once in the morning and once at the end of the day. The teacher will be the only person who reads it. This will be an opportunity for students to talk about their feelings in a way that feels accessible to them. Writing also really helps people develop their ideas around how they feel. This will be a good start to building trust, and hopefully this will encourage students to be open with their teacher about their emotions.
