Mary initiated the kiss the two, and Bigger was more entranced than he knew. From their first interaction, Bigger was obviously showing signs or attraction. His later actions gave him the push that pushed them together leading to their kiss, and to him murdering her. I don't think this moment was sealed but I do believe that if they would have had a relationship, he might've ended with killing Jan.
