Even when they lived in the hollows and Jeannette and Brian dug a hole to start the Glass Castle. They had so much trash Mary and Rex told the kids to start to throw the trash in there. This symbolized the breaking foundation of the father and daughter relationship the bond they had. It was foreshadowing the hardships that would become between Rex and Jeannette. However the rough times Jeannette had with Rex she loved him.

This quote was said by Jeannette Walls, a reminder of a time in her life when she was a little girl making herself hotdogs. Her little tutu caught fire, and she was in the hospital for 6 weeks, until being dragged out by her dad. From a young age she had learned that she only had herself to rely on. She was hard worker and did a lot to end up happy when she moved to New York or to where she lives today in Virginia. Will living in Virginia she gardens and she rides horses. She knows she is capable of going to hard times if she had to. She would never choose to go back but knew she had the strength to do so.

The picture of Ying & Yang symbolizes how everything was chaos but the parents would try to play it off by saying "its fun/ its always an adventure." Its a balance of order and chaos by the imagination but reality there was no balance of chaos and order.

“As awful as he could be, I always knew he loved me in a way no one else ever had.”

Jeannette and Rex held a special bond she would never stop caring for either of her parents even when they did protect her. The picture symbolizes a time from during christmas Rex gifts a star to her. And he explained how when earth was at its last straw and people needed to flee from this planet of doom; they would have to as Jeannette permission to be on her moon. That made her feel special. Throughout the book there are alot of memoirs of good times with father and a lot of bad. She knew she had to protect herself and learned to stand her ground. She even was the one to visit when he was sick and went to see him. And Rex tried to keep an up light image even when he was dying.

The mom had no issue with who she was and what her children had gone through. She thought it built character and help the soul grow. She was never ashamed or embarrassed of how dirty and how her housing smelled.

The picture symbolizes how Jeannette has made peace. A woman alone what seems to be by the beach for solitude and quietness.She did publish the book and many more. She showed her true colors to tell the world, not for petty but for others who go through it. She felt it would make a great book a glimpse on the other side of how everyone hides their secrets when you think their perfect.

“It's really not that hard to put food on the table if that's what you decide to do.”

Brian is the one who said this at thanksgiving at the end of the book. He said this because it really wasn't hard to put food on the table. Even Rose Mary said in the earlier chapters. "Why spend an hour on making food, that will be gone in a hour when i can paint that will last forever." Rose Mary says this and its clear that she cares more about painting then providing for her own kids.

The picture shows a little boy sad reference to Brian, all the kids were hurt in many ways. But this statement came from Brian and to just to imagine little him sad because he cant get food and now knowing how its actually so easy to provide for his kids.

Rose Mary felt if she took a helping hand it would weaken the family. Just this itself caused the family issues with poverty, no clothes, no food, and not proper health care. Rex and Mary could have done so much for these kids with simple acts of actually staying with a job or expecting welfare. Its selfish of Mary to not expect it as she hurts her kids then everything. Mary thought she was so independent.

The picture shows how Jeannette is self-Sufficient, she lives in a home where she makes her own food and she rides horses, she is very clean and likes to have control. She has a mind set of not needing anyone and can stand on her own.
