Her name means ¨harm¨ or ¨shadow¨. She is associated with winter and is a huntress and her most known symbols are her snow shoes, skis and bow. Skadi is a goddess by her marriage to the god Njord, they divorced after nine days of being married because they couldn't stand the noises and differences of each others' homes. Skadi then went on to marry Odin and had two kids, Freya and Freyr.

Skadi charged in suddenly to avenge the murder of her father. The gods convinced to accept three repayments instead. First, Odin cast Thjazi's eyes into the night sky, where they became stars. Then, the gods tried to make her laugh. They succeeded with the help of Loki. Last, Skadi was to pick a husband only by looking at the legs of the gods. She thought she picked Balder but she actually picked the sea-god, Njord. They lived together for nine days in Skadi's home and nine days in Njord's home, but they both couldn't stand the sounds of each other's homes so the two parted ways.

He had been more of a burden than a help to the gods,  so they finally decided he had become too much and they set out to find and capture him. When the gods found him, they took him to a cave, then brought his two sons and turned one into a wolf who then killed his brother. Then, Loki was secured to three three rocks with the entrails of his son, which the gods had turned into iron chains. Skadi, who had a deep hatred for Loki after he had gotten her father killed, placed a poisonous snake above his head. The snake dripped its venom onto Loki's head. His wife held a bowl above his head, catching the venom. Every so often, she had to empty the bowl, and the venom would drip on Loki's head causing him to shake violently, bringing earthquakes to Midgard.

The decided to stop for the night, make a fire and cook one of the oxen. Oddly, no matter how long they cooked for or how hot the fire was, the meat wouldn't cook. They then heard a voice from a tree. It was Thjazi, Skadi's father, who had shape-shifted himself into an eagle. He told them if they let him eat first he will help them cook the meat. They agreed, and Thjazi ate more and more of the oxen. This made Loki angry. He grabbed a staff and tried to hit Thjazi with it. The staff got stuck in his feathers and when he started to fly, so did Loki. Loki begged to be put down, but Thjazi refused unless Loki lured Idunn out of Asgard with her apples of youth, and he agreed. Once Loki lured her out, Thjazi swooped down and grabbed her, bringing her back to his home, Thrymheim. Idunn's apples were missing, so the gods began to grow old and grey. When they found out this was Loki's doing they threatened him. When Thjazi found out that Loki had rescued Idunn, he set out to find them. The gods saw Loki being followed by the eagle and set him on fire. Thjazi died and his daughter, Skadi, went to seek revenge for the death of her father, but was offered reparations which led to her marriage to Njord.
