During World War 1, there were dozen of different airplane models that flew, with major nations like France, Germany, Britain, and the United States each producing a variety of designs throughout the war, including fighters, reconnaissance planes, and bombers, with notable examples like the Fokker Dr.I Triplane, the Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 and the Sopwith Camel. Fokker Dr.I Triplane

The Fokker Dr.I (Dreidecker, "triplane" in German), often known simply as the Fokker Triplane, was a World War One fighter aircraft built by Fokker- Flugzeugwerke.

The plane was primarily used by the Germans Luftstreitkräfte.

The first Dr. I´s appeared over the Western Front in August 1917.

Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5

The Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 is a British biplane fighter aircraft of the First World War.

It was one of the fastest aircraft of the war, while being both stable and relatively manoeuverable.

The SE5a was considered by many pilots to be the best British single-seat fighter of World War One.

Sopwith Camel

The British Sopwith F. 1 Camel shot down more enemy aircraft than any other Allied World War I fighter. Best characterized by its unmatched maneuverability, the camel was difficult to defeat in a dogfight. Even though it had tricky handling characteristics, which made it one of the most dangerous airplanes to fly, it was still one of the most famous airplanes from WWI.

World War I planes generally went out of service shortly after the war ended in 1918, with most being replaced by significantly improved designs during the "Golden Age of Aviation" in the interwar period between WWI and WWII.

Some WWI planes were adapted for civilian use though, like mail delivery or aerial photography, which extended their lifespan further.
