systematic and explicit instruction

"Systematic instruction reflects several important characteristics. Skills and concepts are taught in a planned, logically progressive sequence." Providing simple and explained directions that have order enhance the experience how children learn about reading and writing. Children need to have more than one way to practice new instruction with simple goals that can be achieved step by step. "Explicit instruction means the teacher states clearly what is being taught and models effectively how it is used by a skilled reader."(Learning Point, 2004)
As the teacher, clear concise examples and modeling align with reading instruction. Some ways to offer opportunities to practice throughout the day can include partner reading or activities and allowing free writing or read time. Through exposure to literacy-rich environments, children build the knowledge of language and the world around them as well as cultivate their reading motivation. Researchers argue that children’s later school achievement can be predicted by how much they are immersed in literacy-rich environments in their young years. (Kuo, 2016)

Vocabulary in writing expands thoughts and ideas. Phonics interlocks the words read and heard giving written words more support. Comprehension and fluency give written word its content.
