Art can be subjected to a multitude of forms, but they are all derived from nature.

“The production of a work of art throws a light upon the mystery of humanity.

As society worldwide grows in the fashion of untamed vines, I find it difficult to find a foothold for my voice among teenagers much more persuasive and powerful than I; however, I shouldn’t undermine my own eloquence and instead consider the way I can create an influence, beginning with my community. The verse in which I hope to contribute to the world with is “Beauty isn’t just in looks- it’s in the way you carry yourself, the way you live and love.”; serving as a reminder that physical characteristics make up but a small fraction of the world; that life, not visible beauty, sparks actions and movements and revolutions. I will give kindness, I will give intelligence, I will give poetry and prose, I will give laughter and tears and hugs and love and life to the world so that, in the future, the vines are slightly tamed, and the house upon which they grow can continue to be given a stronger foundation with each generation, fed by what my world couldn’t give, experiences we couldn’t create, movies and poetry and art we couldn’t fathom.

After viewing the film Dead Poets Society (1989) and reading the poem "O Me! O Life!" by Walt Whitman, I found that the tenets of transcendentalism through individualism and self reliance were prominent in both works. Through Whitman's line "That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse." and Mr. Keating's philosophy of teaching that allowed for his students to dream, the transcendental tenets of self-truth and individualism were passed onto both the fictional characters of Dead Poets Society and all audiences engaging with both the film and the poem. Although finding one's voice in a world of powerful ones can be perceived as a difficult task, both Walt Whitman and Mr. Keating encouraged oneself to find themselves in their own truth in order to contribute to a progressing society.
