Wants: Mother wants her family to be safe, healthy, and wants father to come back. Due to what’s all happening in Saigon at that time, every mother would want their children in a better situation than this, so, this is why mother wants to flee Saigon to a better place.
Feels: Mother feels overwhelmed and worried because of the war. She’s overwhelmed due to what’s happened to her and her family, everything is slowly falling apart and she can’t do anything about it. Mother also has to take care of her children and accompany them when fleeing Saigon, so she is worried if she cannot take care of them well.
Think: Mother is most likely thinking that she is a bad mom, she realized that her children have to live in a time with war and not enough resources to maybe survive! Mother is feels miserable because she sees Hà, being all proud when she should’ve been worried just like mother, cutting and saving potato slices for her family.

In part 2 of Inside Out & Back Again I learned that this part is describing Hà’s struggling due to her being stranded on a boat that is rescuing them from being bombed by the communists in Ho Chi Minh. During this time, Hà describes the scene she’s in, the Imagery that is used are Olfactory and Tactile because Hà mentioned how the boat has a smell of sourness and the air is really humid, and I can really feel what she’s describing. I also learnt many things about the people on the boat, they seem to be really respectful and I think everyone on the boat somehow connects to each other and they all know they are in the same situation, with similar privilege with one another.
