Not every assessment goes perfectly the first time. The resit policy exists to give students a fair chance to succeed, while keeping standards consistent.

✅ Essentials:

➡️ Progression – When you pass all your modules at a stage, you move on to the next stage of study.

➡️ Compensated Pass – If you narrowly miss a pass, you may still progress under certain conditions (see LCCM Regulations for OU Validated Awards for details).

➡️ Resit Opportunity – If you fail an assessment and do not achieve a pass (or compensated pass) overall, you’ll normally be offered one resit of the failed assessment. This usually happens before the next academic year begins.

⚠️ Warning - the grade is capped at 40%.

➡️ Retake Opportunity – If you fail the resit or do not take it, you may be offered one retake of the entire module (all assessments). Retakes may require:

• Re-attending classes,

• Following an individual educational plan,

• Paying an additional fee.

A resit is your chance to improve—not just repeat. By being methodical and using the support available, you can approach your resit with confidence.

📋 Know What You’re Resitting – Identify which assessments you need to take again and understand why.

📝 Review Feedback – Go to Canvas, read your feedback carefully, and reflect on how your work was measured against the learning outcomes.

📑 Check the Brief – Revisit the assignment brief. Ask yourself: Which parts did I meet well? Which parts need more attention?

🤔 Reflect on Your Approach – Think about what worked last time and what didn’t. Use this reflection to plan improvements.
