Long term memory: storing close to unlimited amount of information over long periods of time

Example: Remembering every game and what happened for my summer baseball team. I had such a fun and successful season that I remembered through automatic encoding. I just remembered how it went.

Example: Remembering processes from first semester in math class for the final. Through studying it helped me create retrieval cues that help me remember patterns and the process to solve the problem. Studying is an example of effortful encoding, which is learning or storing that requires attention and effort.

Tricks I use to remembering things making play on words, for math either applying same or opposite to certain processes or looking for letters in words that can help me remember. For example last unit in math we had to graph and I used the o in odd and the o in opposite to help me remember that the odd terms go in opposite directions. Also in chemistry with stoich multiplication and away both have long a’s so I know when going from moles to any other value we multiple.

Algorithm: a fixed set of rules or procedures that will guarantee a solution

In math we learn different algorithms and ways to solve problems for example with systems of equations we learn substitution and elimination. Both ways when executed properly will get us to the solution. I prefer elimination because I feel like its easier to multiply both sides than to manipulate one equation for substitution.
