This is what an adobe house would have looked like
"Our adobe cottage was on the side of the street away from the arroyo. it was the last house if you were going to miramamar. About fifty yards behind the corral, the forest closed in" "It was like every other house in jalco, probably larger. The adobe walls were thick, a foot or more, with patches of white wash where the thatched overhang protected the adobe from the rain.there were no windows. The entrance doorway was at one end of the front wall, and directly opposite the door that led to the corral. The doors were made from planks...All the living space for one family was in one large room, about 12 feet wide and 3 times as long."

It is important to him because it is where he was born and where he lived until he did have to move.

This is what the village of Jalcocotán may have looked like.
" The one and only street in Jalcocotán was hardly more than an open stretch of the mule trail that disappeared into the forest North and South of the pueblo." "There was a row of cottages on each side of the street...""...The street had no name." "Whatever Happened in Jalcocotán had to happen on our street because there was no other place for it to happen."

Its importance is, it is where he and his family lived for most of his childhood.

This is what a corral would look like with an adobe house.
"Our was enclosed on three sides by stone walls and shut off from the street by the house. The only entrance to the corral was through the back door of the cottage. The ground sloped up toward the edge of the monte.A ditch along the back wall stopped the runoff water and sluiced it toward the lane between our house and our neighbor's.Close to the house, there was a corncrib built like a miniature adobe cottage with the walls sloping inward at the bottom. It was raised on silts and covered with a grass roof. "
This has importance because the corral helped them grow herbs and geraniums and other things along that line without their hens getting into them.
