Seven Years War- 1754- 1761

Also known as the French and Indian war, the 7 years war was a war between Great Britain and France. Britain gained a huge amount of land out of the 7 years war, but subsequent taxes on the colonists to subsidize for the costs of the war led to discontent, and ultimately, the American Revolution.

Stamp Act- March 22, 1765

The Stamp Act taxed newspapers, almanacs, pamphlets, etc. This was issued by the British, and was affixed to all relevant documents to show that the tax had been paid.

Boston Massacre- March 5, 1770

After the arrival of British troops in Boston, a group of soldiers were surrounded by a bunch of unruly colonists. They opened fire, killing 3 and wounding 2.

Boston Tea Party- December 16, 1773

When British tea arrived in the Boston harbor, many wanted it to be sent back without taxation. Disguised as Wampanoags, colonists dumped the tea overboard the ships.

The Battle of Lexington & Concord- April 19, 1775

When the colonists found out the British planned to burn the supplies and ammunition the Minutemen had stored in Concord, they sent Paul Revere and William Dawes to warn the colonists of that area. The Minutemen and the British met at Lexington, where the "shot heard round the world" was fired, starting the Revolutionary War.

Declaration of Independence- July 4, 1776

Thomas Jefferson wrote The Declaration of Independence. On July 2nd, Congress ruled in favor of independence, and on July 4th, it was approved. The Declaration was sent out throughout the colonies for widespread publication.
