How does the water pull the colours apart?

I think when the colour goes in the water it separates.

The colours separated in the bowl and showed all the colours that is was made up of. The lighter colours moved faster and travelled further.

What will happen if you put two colours on top of each other?

First it acted funny but when we did it right it worked properly, the colours separated.

Cut out 2- by 15 centimetres strips of blotting paper.

Fold each strip in half midway along its length, unfold it again and draw a heavy felt-pen line along the crease.

Repeat this progress on sevral strips of paper marking with a diffrent coloured ink.

Place a end of each strip in a bowl of water (You may have to rise the bowl slightly to help the water soak down the paper.)

Before the water seeps through the strips, guess what's going to happen to the colour
