the great compromiser Henry Clay helped the two sides compromise. slavery prohibited north 36 30'. missouri applied for statehood which lead the states more westward to balance the slave and free states.

andrew jackson was reelected and supported the tariff of 1828. the north wanted protective tariffs to make more money off of supplies , but the south did not want that to happen because that would raise factory prices.

dred scott was a slave taken to free territory and tried to maintain his freedom. the supreme court responded by telling him he cant stay since he is not a citizen but property and the missouri compromise and the kansas nebraska act were unconstitutional . this could cause an uprising for africans that were free to be considered citizens.
