A "Learning Community" is an aspect that I can apply to my future classroom. My students are more likely to succeed if they are working together and with me while working in small groups. This will enhance their chance of retain what is being taught/leaned.

Wait time is another aspect from the Wong & Wong article that I can apply to my classroom. I tend to want to help or jump in too soon. "Pausing after asking a question in the classroom results in an increase in achievement." found on page 33 pg. our assigned text. By giving my students the chance to search and think deeply... retrieving an answer or coming to a conclusion on their own leads to academic achievement because they( the students) wont wait or look to me for the answer because they are completely capable of figuring it out on their own.
-BS

The first aspect I can use is the area about positive expectations. I believe that positive expectations set up for a positive atmosphere where each student and teacher can be themselves and be proud of who they are, but they are also allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. The second aspect I can see myself using is the first day of school welcoming activities. The first day of school is crucial, and as a future teacher it honestly really intimidated me to think about conquering that very first day. But the list of activities provided and the information about how to make your students feel welcome and excited are things I can see being very useful to me.
-AS

The first aspect from the Wong & Wong reading that I feel I can apply to my future classroom is asking questions throughout the class and not just after a reading, video or lecture. I want to be an effective teacher and I think that if I make it a goal to intersperse questions throughout my lessons I will be more successful. The second aspect I will apply to my future classroom is having a set statement of positive expectations for the first day of school.
-AD

The first aspect from the reading that I can apply to my future classroom is having positive, high expectations for my students' success. I want my students to want to be successful and if they know that I have those expectations of them, I think they will be more inclined to seek out opportunities to meet those expectations. Another aspect I can use is welcoming my students to the first day of school. The first day is always filled with different emotions for children and I want them to be excited to come to school.

The aspect of a "First Day of School Celebration" is something I intend to use in my future classroom. Children need to know that you are excited to see them and to teach them and, in turn, they will be excited to learn. Another aspect from the Wong & Wong reading that I intend to use in my future classroom is the idea of setting positive expectations. Students who feel cared for and believed in are far more inclined to believe in and care about themselves.
-EV

The first aspect from the Wong & Wong reading that I would definitely use in my future classroom is not to teach as I was taught. This is super important to me because each day as I am in the school of edu. learning how about to be a great teacher, I often can look back to my own experiences from elementary school through high school and realize how bad of teachers I have had. Because of those bad teachers I can use them as an example to not be like them with my own students. Another aspect I would like to take is their advice on positive expectations. One of the ways in which I invasion my future classroom is with a lot of positivity because I believe that brings out the best communities. By using positive expectations I believe my classroom can be very successful.

-GR

I would use questions throughout the classroom. I think it is a good strategy because it works on the students comprehension. The second thing I would use is the welcoming day. As we learned in class, it is important to build a community within the class. I want my future students to feel safe and be able to be themselves when they are in my class.
-GH

Two Aspects to Implement

There has been a lot that I have read throughout this book so far that I have thought will make me a successful teacher. One of the biggest things that I think will help when I become a teacher is to have positive expectations for all students. I think that sometimes as a teacher it is hard to have positive expectations for all students, especially if the student doesn't seem to be showing interest in the subject or seem to be interested in their own learning. So I think that making sure that I have positive expectations for ALL of my students, regardless of whether or not I think that they care is important. Showing them that I care and that I want them to succeed could just be the difference between them actually beginning to care about their own learning or them continuing their pattern of not caring. Another thing that I think that I can implement in my own classroom to help with the success of my students is implementing learning communities into the classroom. I think that this will help the students to succeed the most because they will be able to bounce ideas off of one another, as well as they will have more control over their own learning. Letting students have time to work on their own and ask me questions will help greatly with their learning. They will be able to work with one another and check their understanding in class before going home and attempting an assignment only to realize that they might not understand it like they thought that they did. I know there were many times when I was going through classes and I thought that I understood the concepts that were taught, only to get home and attempt the homework and realize that I didn't understand it.

-AB

One aspect was that a positive mentality will benefit everyone! If the teacher goes into a classroom, putting preference on the "top performing students," she/they/he is disadvantaging the other students that they do not give the same amount of time to. When the teacher goes in with a positive mentality and high standards for each of her/his/their students, the outcomes of student's performances will be great! Another aspect was that you can only make one first impression. Dress like you want to be there, not unkept. It made me a little sad, though, because, what if someone can't afford nicer clothes, but they're trying to get a career in teaching (which doesn't come with outstandingly high salaries)? That's one thing that bothered me about this reading. "If you do not care about yourself, why should the students care about you?" (Pg. 50 of our text book.) This is a pretty harsh statement. The system in America is set up to benefit the white, cis-gendered, straight, middle to upperclass, christian male. I get that first impressions are important, and I am very lucky to be a person who can afford to dress nicely. I am lucky that I have a home with a shower and running water so I can stay clean. I do not like how this text is so blatant about how people need to dress and look nice, otherwise they don't care about themselves. That is extremely false. Some people yes, but it is stereotyping and rude to say that people who aren't "presentable" by societies standards don't care about themselves.

While there were many aspects I want to apply in my future classroom, today I am going to discuss welcoming students on the first day of school and having positive expectations.
The first day of every new school year is always nerve wracking, emotional, and sometimes challenging. Especially for our little ones! I want to welcome them in a fun way. I want to welcome their families/guardians on the first day as well. I want to create that classroom community from day 1.
Also, having positive expectations in extremely important to me. I am a very positive person and try to see the best in everyone. This is what we should strive for with our young ones because they love positive reinforcement.

-MGB

The Wong & Wong reading provided various useful tools, values, and ideas for teacher's to utilize in their classrooms. One of the aspects I am committed to applying to my future classroom is a clear and concise list of high expectations for students. Not only are students more successful in this type of environment, but if you give your students more than they expect, they will give you back more than you expected. The second aspect I'm going to implement in my classroom will be to teach as research tells us is best to teach. The most effective teachers understand and use proven, research-based teaching techniques, along with using research data to improve teaching and learning.

-RW
