I think a combination of project plans and project meetings would help my students be most successful. After a child sets up his/her project plan, then he/she is required to check in with me after certain steps are completed to verify the child is meeting an expectation.

When working on multi-part problems (which are abundant in AP Physics), it can be demoralizing for a student to put in 20+ minutes of work only to realize that it was all for nothing. Having students check their work with a group or with the instructor at specific work intervals gives them feedback on their quality of work as well as lets the instructor address any common misconceptions.

I found that: using a checklist for a project can help students and teachers stay on-track during a project. They help students be more self-managing as they complete open-ended tasks. They help teachers know when and where students need extra help or additional instruction. I use project checklists to give constructive feedback and re-direct instruction where necessary.

I found that by allowing students to monitor their own progress and giving them structured items to help them self-reflect allows students to take ownership of their learning and by into the project. Also just like the example we read earlier, allowing time for peer feed back can also be a positive way to reinforce learning and make the students responsible to each other for their actions.
