1) Sky has Fragile X syndrome, an intellectual disability and autism. She has faced employment barriers in the past due to a lack of confidence.

2) Sky used the NDIS employment assistance funding to build her skills for work and to find a job. She was assigned an employment consultant, and the mentorship allowed Sky to overcome employment barriers and to identify suitable job options. Sky can try different positions through work experience to understand her interests and determine what pathway suits her strengths best.

3) The NDIS supported Sky's social health and wellbeing by connected her to mentor, with whom she was able to form a meaningful connection with and feel supported. She is also able to expand her social circle by meeting new people at work. Her mental health and wellbeing is supported as finding a job builds self-esteem and optimism. Her spiritual health and wellbeing is supported as employment may provide her with a sense of purpose and belonging.

John has a moderate intellectual disability and some behavioural challenges. This means he can learn and carry out tasks but may need extra time, guidance, and support to stay focused, manage emotions, and build independence.

Discuss how the NDIS helps him

Through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), John has support workers Luke, Wayne, and Steph who help him build skills, regulate his behaviour, and achieve his goals. They arranged his volunteering placement, gradually supported him to learn new tasks, and gave him confidence to take on responsibilities. The NDIS helps John by funding this personalised support, allowing him to grow socially, develop work skills, and work towards his ultimate goal of paid employment.

List and describe impacts on health

Physical health – Volunteering keeps John active and engaged in tasks like sorting clothes, working at the register, and helping customers, which can improve his overall wellbeing.

Mental health – Having purpose, routine, and success in tasks boosts John’s self-esteem, reduces stress, and helps him regulate his emotions.

Social health – By interacting with customers and volunteers, John has built friendships, feels valued in his community, and has reduced isolation.

Emotional health – John feels pride, belonging, and happiness through his volunteering role, which improves his mood and resilience.
