AL QURAN AS THE BOOK OF GUIDANCE & ADAB IN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

The Qur’an serves as the ultimate guide for Muslims, offering direction in all aspects of life. It provides moral, spiritual, social, and legal teachings, helping individuals lead a righteous and balanced life. As the word of Allah, it contains instructions on how to worship, how to treat others, and how to build a just society. The Qur’an’s guidance is timeless, addressing both personal conduct and broader societal issues, encouraging believers to live with integrity, compassion, and responsibility.

It emphasizes reflection and understanding, urging believers to study its teachings and apply them in daily life. The Qur’an is not just a book of rules; it is a comprehensive framework that teaches Muslims how to live in harmony with themselves, others, and the natural world.

Adab (Etiquette) in Seeking Knowledge

In Islam, seeking knowledge is a noble pursuit, and there is a strong emphasis on observing proper etiquette during the learning process. Some key etiquettes include:

	1.	Sincerity: The intention behind seeking knowledge should be pure, with the goal of pleasing Allah and improving oneself, not for personal gain or recognition.

	2.	Humility: A seeker of knowledge should approach learning with humility, recognizing that true knowledge belongs to Allah. Arrogance or pride in knowledge is discouraged.

	3.	Respect for Teachers: Respect for one’s teachers is fundamental. A student should listen attentively, appreciate their efforts, and show gratitude for the knowledge imparted.

	4.	Patience and Perseverance: Acquiring knowledge is a gradual process that requires dedication and persistence. Patience is essential, as deep understanding takes time.

	5.	Acting on Knowledge: Knowledge in Islam is meant to be practiced. Learning is not merely for intellectual benefit but should lead to positive actions and personal growth. Sharing beneficial knowledge with others is also highly encouraged.

By observing these etiquettes, the pursuit of knowledge becomes an act of worship and a means of personal and spiritual development.

PILLARS OF ISLAM

The Five Pillars of Islam are the core beliefs and practices that every Muslim must follow. They form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and actions. These pillars are:

	1.	Shahada (Faith): The declaration of faith, stating that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.” This is the central tenet of Islam and the first step in becoming a Muslim.

	2.	Salah (Prayer): Performing the five daily prayers facing the Kaaba in Mecca. These prayers occur at specific times throughout the day: dawn (Fajr), midday (Dhuhr), afternoon (’Asr), sunset (Maghrib), and evening (’Isha).

	3.	Zakat (Charity): Giving a portion of one’s wealth (typically 2.5%) to those in need. Zakat is meant to purify wealth and help reduce inequality in society.

	4.	Sawm (Fasting): Observing fasts during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset. Fasting is meant to teach self-discipline and spiritual reflection.

	5.	Hajj (Pilgrimage): Undertaking the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime, if physically and financially able. Hajj occurs annually during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah and is a major act of worship.

These pillars guide a Muslim’s religious life and ensure a balanced relationship with Allah, oneself, and the community.

The Six Pillars of Iman (faith) in Islam are the essential beliefs that every Muslim must hold. These are the core components of Islamic theology and define a Muslim’s understanding of faith. They are:

1. Belief in Allah: The belief in the existence of one God, Allah, who is the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign of all. This includes understanding that Allah is unique and without partners.

2. Belief in the Angels: Muslims believe in the existence of angels, spiritual beings created by Allah to carry out His commands. Angels, such as Jibril (Gabriel), play vital roles in delivering divine revelations to the prophets.

3. Belief in the Books of Allah: The belief in the revealed scriptures sent by Allah to guide humanity. These include the Torah (Tawrat), Psalms (Zabur), Gospel (Injil), and the Qur’an, which is considered the final and unaltered word of Allah.

	4.	Belief in the Prophets: The belief in all prophets sent by Allah to guide humanity. Muslims believe in prophets like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, with Muhammad being the final prophet (Seal of the Prophets).

	5.	Belief in the Day of Judgment: The belief that there will be a Day of Judgment when all individuals will be resurrected and held accountable for their deeds. On this day, Allah will judge who enters Paradise (Jannah) or Hell (Jahannam).

	6.	Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar): The belief in Allah’s predestination. This means that everything that happens, good or bad, occurs according to Allah’s knowledge and will. Muslims believe in both free will and divine decree, knowing that Allah’s wisdom governs all things.

These pillars of Iman form the foundation of a Muslim’s belief system and help shape their understanding of existence and their relationship with the Creator.

The concept of Ihsan and Islamic eschatology are central aspects of Islamic theology, focusing on the quality of worship and the belief in the afterlife.

Ihsan

Ihsan means “excellence” or “perfection” and refers to worshiping Allah with utmost sincerity and mindfulness. It is described as “worshiping Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, knowing that He sees you.” Ihsan emphasizes the inner dimension of faith, encouraging Muslims to perform all actions with moral integrity, sincerity, and spiritual awareness. It represents the highest level of faith, beyond the basic obligations of Islam and belief (Iman).

Islamic Eschatology

Islamic eschatology deals with the events of the end times and the afterlife. It includes:

1. Signs of the End Times: Various minor and major signs leading to the Day of Judgment, such as moral decay and the return of Isa (Jesus).

2. Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah): Allah will judge all individuals based on their deeds. The righteous will be rewarded in Paradise (Jannah), while the sinful will be punished in Hell (Jahannam).

3. Resurrection (Al-Ba’th): All human beings will be resurrected to face judgment.

4. Heaven and Hell: Eternal destinations based on one’s faith and actions.

Both concepts emphasize accountability, encouraging Muslims to live with moral excellence and prepare for the afterlife.
