Discuss how…..(character) shows his/her personality by the actions he/she takes.

The main character in the story shows her personality by the actions she takes because as you read the story she says how she is bulimic and she adds a lot of detail of what she does to herself. She doesn't see herself as being ¨sick¨ because she thinks that sticking her fingers in her mouth help her and she says that that doesn't mean she has a disease. Janie the main character, asks if nothing's wrong with her and she doesn´t know exactly why she's at the Camp Golden Slopes, which is the place she goes to for people with eating disorders. Janie also is the type of person who isn't afraid to speak her mind because when she sees something or something someone does and doesn't like it, she says something about it because it annoys her. She doesn't like how she looks like because she thinks she too overweight but in reality she is underweight but tries and to lose more weight by sticking her fingers in her mouth to throw up all of her food that she had already eaten. She isn't allowed to have a napkin on her lap and she have any sort of object that could possibly kill someone like shoelaces. She hates these rules because normally no one uses any of these to harm themselves. Janie also can't exercise because they have to have a certain amount of weight before they start exercising but other people find way to lose exercising like going up and down the stairs to burn off the extra calories she confused throughout the whole day of her eating because she doesn't like feeling heavy and full.

13.This story helps me understand the problem of…better because…..

This story helps me understand eating disorders better people in the story there are more than just one type of eating disorders that the characters have in the camps that Janie is staying at for her eating disorder. Janie's eating disorder is bulimia. This eating disorder is when someone eats a lot of food in a short period of time and when they are done eating they quickly throw up the food and exercise as much as they can so they won't gain weight from all of the food they had just finished eating. In the book they say ¨ Starvers¨ instead of saying anorexia because it makes it sound less of a disease. In the camp she is staying at, there are a lot of people who starve themselves because they don't want to gain weight and instead lose weight which is not healthy at att because your body needs protein and energy to stay healthy and you not eating can be terrible especially if you have an eating disorder, things could because more worst for the person. The most common eating disorders in this story is Anorexia, binge eating, and bulimia. A majority of the people who stay at this camp feel like there's nothing wrong with them because for them it's normal and they see nothing wrong with them throwing up food and trying to lose weight. Some girls in this camp have stayed here for more than 2 years because of how much worst there disorder got. Janie hates staying at this camp because of the rules they have, like nurses standing outside of the bathroom hearing every little single thing they do to make sure they don't try harming themselves and writing everything each of them say or do. In my opinion, having an eating disorder sure does sounds very hard to maintain because no one should every think that they are fat because of what a number says on a scale, don't ever let a number fool you into thinking you are fat. Everyone is beautiful, no human being should ever tell another human being that they are fat because it could really hurt the person and possibly have them think that they are too fat which could lead to an eating disorder which again, is not healthy for anyone. This is how this story helps me understand more of what an eating disorder is and that each person who has an eating disorder experience something different and have their own opinions about themselves.

16 .Discuss how…..(character) shows his/her personality by the actions he/she takes.

Gemma shoes her personality by the action she takes by showing how she is shy and has many questions to ask but never bothers to ask because she doesn't want to make things awkward with ¨Ty¨ ( Another character who follows Gemma everywhere she goes but introduces himself by paying for Gemma's coffee). She also doesn't really like to show her emotions because she only smiles at him when he asks her something that she thinks is funny.

I really haven't gotten into the book yet because i recently just started reading it but by the way she is described by the author and the things she says makes her seem like the type of person who talks a lot because she says that she mumbles and she needs to drink the coffee to make her stop talking and to stop telling him about what her mom and dad do for a living. She has a feeling that Ty has been following her because Gemma always seems to find him everywhere she goes but she never said anything about it to her parents. She also was afraid to ask Ty why he would always follow her but she didn't want to make it sound like she knew she was being followed by him because he's around his twenty meanwhile she is still in school in high school. This is how Gemma shows her personality by the actions she makes.

21. Do any of the characters change during the story

During the story, Gemma (main character) does change. Gemma changes because of what Ty did to help. Throughout the story so far, she was kidnapped by Ty because he pretended to put in sugar into her coffee but instead, he drugged her drink. She was fine until she drank the coffee, she was a little dizzy but couldn't do much to help her stop being dizzy and also because Ty was talking her somewhere, She had no idea where. As shes waking up, she arrives at the place Ty brought her to. She was worried, nervous, and afraid because she had no clue where she was. Ty was being really nice to her and he kept telling Gemma that she was alright and that he wouldn't let anything or anyone hurt her, not even himself. Gemma was still very nervous because she wanted to get out of there. There were also no people around her, just a few buildings, that also worried her because she wanted someone to help her. Ty explained to her that there were no people around because they were in the middle of a dessert of Australia which was not on the map at all, so no one would know she was missing or where she was. As days past, she started feeling more comfortable with him but she challenged and forced herself to because she wanted to find out more things about where, why, and how she got to the place shes at right now, she also wanted to find out more things about Ty so she could win him trust so she could secretly sneak out of there and leave and hopefully find someone that could help her. Gemma was very daring because shes alone in a different country than she originally at. Gemma didn't want to hurt him but she also needed to get out because Ty didn't let her after she tried to hurt herself the first day or week she was there, so Ty would rather keep her inside of the house. If i were Gemma i´d be terrified but not at the same time because Ty is taking very good care of her and isn't doing anything to harm her but kidnapping her sure wasn't the way so he could win her heart.

17. Discuss how…..(character) shows his/her personality by what other characters say or do toward this character.

Gemma shows her personality by what Ty says and does to her because when Ty kidnapped her she didn't say anything about it in the beginning because of the ¨sugar¨ Ty put in her coffee but Gemma was still able to talk she just didn't say anything. As she arrives to the house they are staying at Gemma is quiet most of the time because she's afraid and she just wants to get back home but every time she tries to escape to get back home, Ty always finds a way to bring her back home and tell her that there isn't any way out and that she'll never get back home because they are the only ones near the place they are at and that no one will ever find them because again, the place isn't on the map. Ty also says that Gemma needs to talk more because she either just stares at him, says yes or no, and just shakes her head. She is trying really hard to get out of there and every time time she gets closer and closer but Ty always finds her or locks her in with a fence he is building so Gemma wont get out and go somewhere where Ty doesn't know.

19.Compare where you live with the neighborhood, town or city in the book. Would you rather live in the place where this story takes place? Why or why not?

Compared to the town i live in, it is very different because there are a lot of places around and buildings along with a lot of people anywhere at any time. There are also schools around and jobs for people, meanwhile in the book, the place Gemma is at, has not a lot of buildings, people, and places to go to which wouldn't make it fun to live in or at the place she is currently staying at. I wouldn't want to live in the place Gemma and Ty are living in because there isn't much things to do there because again, there aren't people around except them two and there isn't anywhere for you to go because the nearest place for them to go will take them like a week or possibly even more. Since Gemma and Ty are staying there, the heat is way hotter too people they live on the dessert in the middle of nowhere and a place that doesn't have much building and have no trees or anything will also make the place 10 times more hotter than it already is. Therefore i wouldn't ever want to live where both Gemma and Ty live, and also because no one would know that i was there because there isn't any technology to contact someone which is no bueno for Gemma because now she is just alone living with a stranger.

2.What questions does this book raise for you? What issues are addressed or ignored in the text?

I wonder if Gemma's parents are looking for her and have already reported it to the police. What is going to happen when they actually do find her or if they never find Gemma and he stays with Ty forever? A lot of problems in the text are ignored by the characters because Ty the one who kidnapped Gemma, has been following her since she was 10 and had been planning to take her away for about 2 or 3 years now and Gemma is now 16 years old. Before Gemma was taken away, she always had a feeling that someone was following her or stalking her but she never thought anything about it because again, she was 10 years old and didn't know if anyone was actually stalking or following her. Another issue that is ignored in the story is when Ty tries to force Gemma to do things she doesn't want to do. He should be letting her be alone after he kindnapped her and how he has her trapped in from going anywhere and getting lost because everything looks the same there since there aren't many trees or anything around her. An issue that is addressed in the book is when Gemma tries to harm herself in the beginning of when Ty kidnapped her and she woke up after that. Ty put locks on the draws where he kept all his knives and sharp things so that gemma wont go inside them and try harming herself again.

23. Do any of the characters do things you feel are wrong? Explain

In my opinion boy characters in the story both make decisions that are wrong because Ty shouldn't of even kidnapped gemma because he could of easily just became friends with her because they've seen/and talked to each other before. Ty shouldn't keep Gemma in a place she doesn't want to be in so he should just bring her back to the airport where she had last visited. Ty does take very good care of her because he treats her as if he'd never even kidnapped her in the first place. Gemma also shouldn't be trying to escape because she knows that she's in the middle of nowhere and there isn't any way out except if Ty ever decides to bring her back to the airport. Gemma should be happy that shes even getting 3 meals a day and is able to go outside and do things because most kidnappers don't let them have that much freedom. Gemma also shouldn't try and kill herself because thats not going do much for her except just die just because she was taken away and lots of people are looking for her, so she doesn't have to worry but she also does. He also shouldn't of been following her since she was ten because that is absolutely wrong, especially since he was stalking her and because she was just a little girl. He's been following her 6 years now. Ty promised Gemma that after 4 months past, he would take her back to the airport and never follow her anymore, i think that Ty is gonna break this promise because he can't just plan to kidnap gemma for 3 years and then let her go in 4 months because he wants to.This is how both Gemma and Ty have both done things that are wrong towards each other.
