The vibrant and powerful colors used in a collage-like format help bring Hughes' poems to life. The poems all circulate loosely around water and the ocean as their central theme. One describes sailing along the coasts of Ireland and England, and another tells the story of someone jumping in puddles on a rainy sidewalk. The beautiful art style of Bryan pairs well with the carefully worded poems of Langston Hughes.

It tells the story about a young girl named Justice and her two twin brothers, Levi and Thomas. Justice has always felt like a bit of an outsider when it came to her brothers especially since she was younger, and of course not a twin, but she is certainly smart enough to read them to say the least. It is a fascinating read for those who love elements of mystery and suspense throughout the plot.

Peter enjoys playing in the snow, creating footprints in the snow, witnessing a snowball fight, and exploring his neighborhood. He informs his mother about his adventures at the end of the day. He then takes a hot bath, goes to bed, and gets up the following morning eager to enjoy the snow again, this time with a friend.

These Hands is a children's book that shows the lovely evolution of a grandfather telling his grandson about gaining civil rights. For example, on the first few pages the grandfather says "Did you know these hands used to tie a triple bowline knot in three seconds flat?". In the middle he talks about how his hands were not allowed to touch bakery items or really anything that wasn't cleaning supplies. He then makes the uplifting claims that him and his community protested and made petitions to reverse these horrible lack of rights for people of color. In the last few pages, the man says "Now any hands can mix the bread dough, no matter their color". This book shows the unfortunate reality that people of color faced very extreme circumstances, but then it ends on a better note where it talks about what people of color's hands can now do after people fought for their rights.
