Matt is the clone of the powerful drug lord, El Patron, which rules the country of Opium which is a border country between the United States and Aztlan (used to known as Mexico) with an iron fist. When the story starts, Matt is living with a maid named Celia who is also Matt's caretaker. But, his life began to change either better or worse. Matt was introduced to Alacran family when he injured his foot while meeting Steven, Emilia, and Maria (daughter of Senator Mendoza) by crashing through his house window. When Mr. Alacran (great grandson of El Patron) told everyone that Matt was a clone, everyone became cold at Matt except for Maria. The relationship between and Matt builds up throughout the story. Matt was tortured and dehumanized until El Patron and Celia came to his rescue. El Patron treated like he was his own son. Matt was being taught how to play on the piano and El PAtron would tell Matt stories about his childhood. Matt still had enemies in the Mendoza and Alacran families. Later in the story, Matt knew he could rule Opium but he knew he can help managed the border nation. But, everything began change when El Patron had a heart attack. Matt was being hunted down so that his heart can be used to save El Patron. But, Celia tamper with Matt's heart with arsenic to kill El Patron if the transplant commenced. Tam Lin saved from the hospital and told to cross the border of Aztlan to escape. (The story continues on from there.)

I like how the suspense in the book fills me for the next and/or chapter of the story. I found Matt, El Patron and Tam Lin as interesting characters in the book. El Patron is a very dark and cunning character and he can be very brutal to any character that crosses his path. Matt is also interesting because he deals with the prejudice of the Alacran family for being a clone and he is finding his purpose in his life as a clone. This book is comprable to a dystopian future.

The book will leave you with thoughts about story or the characters. I recommend this book to readers who love suspense and to dystopian fans.
