Ryan had a big tolerance to alcohol which worsened over the years. He was known for being someone that would drink on a regular, multiple times a day. He doubled with larger amounts of alcohol since his body got so resistant to it that it was no longer providing him with the desired effect. In chapter 9, they talk about the tolerance of alcohol and how it can affect you when your body craves more and larger amounts of alcohol. When Ryan didn't have alcohol, he felt as if everything around him was ending and falling apart.

Ryan experienced some withdrawal symptoms when he wasn't drinking or in the presence of any alcohol. He was experiencing shaking, vomming blood, anxiety, nausea, fevers, and hallucinations. Ryan did not like feeling this way and going through these traumatic symptoms, so it made him rely on alcohol more. His body became so dependent on it that when he would start drinking again, he would automatically start to feel better. Withdrawals can be very scary because so much comes with it like the possibility of having a seizure or experiencing heart failure. In chapter 9, They talk about how withdrawals end up leading to alcohol dependency overtime.

Ryans addiction got worse overtime it started affecting and taking a toll on his everyday life. Not only was it affecting him mentally and physically, but it affected those around him such as family and friends and the relationships he had with them. He started slacking with work which eventually led him to not be able to work anymore and socialize correctly with those around him. His alcohol addiction started taking over his life and his passions were no longer his passions and sooner or later it was replaced with drinking. Drinking became his new everyday life. According to Chapter 9, it is obvious that someone is dependent when they are unable to uphold obligations or relationships because of their substance usage.

After watching the video with Ryans story, I realized how much people with addiction suffer every day. I see how it gets uncontrollable overtime and how things end up leading to losing everything especially the most important people to you. You start to create a new normal for yourself which replaces the old passions and hobbies you once loved. I'm going to be talking about 4 behaviors in chapter 9 which are Tolerance, Withdrawal, Persistent Desire for substance, and Diminished socializing or working. All of these behaviors are things that Ryan and his family all experienced during this alcohol addiction.
