Hello, I am a diesel mechanic of 20 years and have been working in mining since I finished school back in 2003. I have done the chemistry part to engineering already and thoroughly enjoyed that, so I am looking forward to learning more about this subject. I have completed a engineering diploma at tafe which involved an engineering materials subject.

Being a diesel mechanic we regularly have to check for fatigue cracks in metals and investigate why certain materials have failed.

Hello, I'm currently in Dubai working for a satallite services company. I've primarily been working in aviation most of my life, primarily on the electrical / electronics side of things. I haven't done any material science for decades, so I'm looking forward to getting into the interesting material on this course. Wishing everyone good luck!

Hi! The last time I did science was the Engineering Chemistry and Introduction to Physics courses. I only completed school to year 10, but I love Science. I don't directly use science in my work, but the chemistry of cleaning substances, the physics in moving heavy loads and so many other fields of science underpin every day life.

Hello. I come to this course with a mix of experiences that I believe will not only support my learning but also shape how I approach engineering. For the past few years, I’ve been working as a Property Manager, looking after facilities at radar sites and weather stations across the Northern Territory and North Queensland. It’s a job that requires a lot of problem-solving, especially when things don’t go to plan in such remote locations. There’s always something that needs fixing or maintaining, and I’ve learned to think quickly, manage projects under pressure, and keep everything running smoothly—even when I’m miles away from the nearest city. It’s also taught me to pay close attention to safety and compliance, which I know will be valuable in engineering.

Before this, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, and although it gave me a solid grounding in science, I always felt drawn to something more hands-on and technical. I’ve always enjoyed working with tools and figuring out how things work, which is why I decided to pursue an Associate Degree in Engineering. The scientific knowledge and analytical skills I gained from my pharmacy degree have definitely shaped the way I approach problem-solving, but it’s the chance to apply that knowledge practically—whether it’s fixing equipment or designing solutions—that really excites me. I’m looking forward to bringing my unique perspective, my love for science, and my real-world problem-solving experience to this course and seeing where it takes me.

Hello everyone! My background in science mainly comes from my studies and work in engineering. I previously studied science subjects in high school, and I have also completed Introduction to Engineering Chemistry. In my current role working in the engineering industry, I regularly apply scientific concepts, particularly in computer-aided design (CAD). I’m looking forward to refreshing my knowledge in this course and learning alongside all of you!
