In this project, there are different types of evidence that supports the argument that access to dental care is a serious issue in the country. For example, the use of modes of persuasion like ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion), and logos (logic). Here is how:

Ethos: The ad uses brands that we trust like Crest and Oral-B because they have been in the industry for a long time and a lot of people knows them for promoting oral health, and the fact that they are talking about this issue make their credibility stronger. The ad states, "For decades, Crest and Oral-B have been dedicated to brighter smiles." demonstrating that they as a company do not only sell products but also as an organization, they want to do a positive difference.

Pathos: The ad uses images about real kids and families affected by the problem of low access to dental care, because it is easier for viewers to have a personal connection if they see real children who need dental care and do not have it. This way it is easier for viewers to have a personal connection and empathize with the families struggles.

Logos: The ad includes statistics and stories to indicate how access to dental care can make people feel better and improve their quality of life. For example, it says, "More than 20 million children in the U.S. lack access to basic dental care." This use of data works to support the argument that low access to dental care is a big problem of public health and not just an emotional issue.

The combination of this strategies helps to make sure the viewers get the message as more than just a commercial. The ad also makes viewers feel they have the power to take action by making big or small contributions to help fix the lack of dental care. It implies that supporting initiatives like this can lead to real change for not privilege communities. Additionally, the ad highlights the long-term benefits of healthy smiles, not just for individuals but for society as a whole. When kids can smile with confidence, they are more likely to be good in school, build self-esteem, and pursue opportunities that can improve their future. These reinforce why this issue matters and motivate the audience to engage with the cause.

The issue of dental care access is important because it affects people’s health and their future opportunities. When families cannot afford dental care, they often face serious health problems that can affect everything from eating and speaking to socializing and succeeding in school or work. Kids who do not have regular dental checkups may end up with painful teeth or even have trouble focusing on their studies. This ad highlights how something as simple as a toothbrush can change a child's life, like a mother state in the ad. It is not just about clean teeth, it is about giving children the tools they need to grow up healthy, confident, and ready to take on the world. This issue is important because good oral health is part of good overall health. When people are able to take care of their teeth, they feel better and are more likely to succeed in life. That is why this ad is not just about promoting products, but also about making a real difference in the lives of low income families.

To help back up my analysis and argument, I have included three scholarly sources. These sources go deeper into the issues of dental care access and its effects on health and well-being. Here are my references:

1. Ismail, A. I., & Sohn, W. (2001). “The impact of universal access to dental care on disparities in caries experience in children.” The Journal of the American Dental Association. https://doi.org/10.14219/jada.archive.2001.0172

This article discusses the connection between access to dental care and overall health outcomes, particularly in children, which aligns with the emphasis on oral health disparities in the ad campaign.

2. Williams, D. R., & Jackson, P. B. (2005). “Social Sources of Racial Disparities In Health.” Health Affairs. https://doi.org/10.1377/hlthaff.24.2.325

This study explains how access to care, including dental services, is deeply tied to socioeconomic status.‌

3. Genco, R.

In Project Two, I wrote about dental care inequality in the United States and how it affects families with low income and limited access to basic health resources. My Padlet will analyze the success of the "Closing America’s Smile Gap" ad campaign by Crest and Oral-B in approaching this issue. The ad highlights the struggles of families who cannot afford dental care, using emotional real stories to connect with the audience, logical facts to show the gravity of the problem, and ethical trust to inspire action and make solutions. This campaign effectively raises awareness and encourages change by focusing on an issue that impacts millions of people. It shows how small actions can make a big difference in creating a better and accessible system for dental care. By addressing both the problem and solution, this campaign inspires viewers to get involved and make a different.
