On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters protesting the election results pushed past barriers and stormed the capitol building. The political cartoon below displays the events that took place while also exemplifying collective behavior. Collective behavior refers to activities involving large numbers of people that are usually controversial and bring about social change (Macionis, 490). The riot that followed the protests were clearly controversial as police did nothing to stop these white supremacists yet continue to target black people for peacefully protesting.
source: https://americanindependent.com/cartoon-white-privilege-riot-blm-law-enforcement-us-capitol/

According to sociologist David Riesman, "modernization brings about change in social character, personality patterns common to members of a particular society" (Macionis, 505).
