My Symbol is the green light that Gatsby longs for. This symbol represents his love and everlasting desire for Daisy. It shines bright, because He does not know what it entails. It also symbolizes the jealousy Gatsby as of Tom, as Tom is married to Daisy. However, once Gatsby attains the green light, it fades. Most of the novel, the appeal of the green light is overwhelming. However, as his love fades for Daisy, the green light fades. This most affects Gatsby because the green light is directly connected to the green light.

"He stretched out his arms towards the dark water in a curious way and far as i was from him, i could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily i glanced seaward-and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of the dock." Fitzgerald 21.

This is meaningful because Gatsby is reaching out for Daisy for the first time.

Gatsby only hoped and believed in the Daisy, that they would always be there for each other.

This is important because it contrasts the thought process and what Gatsby thought world would be like if he ended up with Daisy.

Compared to the great distance that had separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her, almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. This is very important because Gatsby is now realizing his love for Daisy may be vanishing and he is getting further and further away from the green light.
