This is a business letter I typed to Target to acknowledge their good products. The fun thing was when we sent them the letter in anticipation of getting one in return (I did, but sadly there was no coupons sent to me due to my poor manipulating skills).

I really like this obituary assignment because it wasn't meant to be serious. Even though puns aren't my strength, it was fun to think of many that were so bad in a funny way. We had the choice of picking an object, and I chose bread because it's somewhat an easy topic and I really like the food.

Based on the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, we were assigned to create a two-voice poem with a theme that links both character's situations. Then, we had to present the poem heavily graded on emotion and pacing (I enjoyed acting out as two characters with different emotions for each of them).

After reading The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis, we had to write down a character analysis on one of the characters, Byron, and how he changed. This analysis was made with hard work and dedication (my heart raced as I turned this document in).

Civil Rights Socratic Seminar Notes

When reading The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis, we learned about racism and their motive behind being racist. This document shows my notes that were taken for a Socratic Seminar, which were used whenever I spoke. Even though speaking my opinion to a class isn't my thing, it was exciting to do some sort of debate.

The Best Thing I Read This Year

One of the best books I've read this year is Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones: 90 Recipes for Making Your Own Ice Cream and Frozen Treats from Bi-Rite Creamery written by the creamery itself. What I like about this book is that there's not just only recipes, but there's also facts about each main ingredient used in ice cream such as vanilla, chocolate, and tea and coffee. For example, white chocolate isn't actually chocolate because it doesn't contain cocoa solids but cocoa butter only (When I told other people this, they already knew).

Language arts was always my weak subject, and whenever I'd take writing classes over the summer it didn't feel like I made any progress into mastering types of writing. I'm really happy about having Mrs. Harmonson as my language arts teacher because not only is she hardworking and wants her kids to excel, but she understands the struggles we have. One of my biggest successes in her class was improving the format in character analysis paragraphs and my speaking skills. Known as a pretty shy kid, I would never like presentations and would always speak in a monotonous matter. But, Mrs. Harmonson showed me that emotion and enthusiasm (pacing as well) were huge factors that led to good presenting, which helped me feel comfortable in doing so.

Socratic Seminar

A socratic seminar is a discussion on a broad topic using different points of view. The goal of a socratic seminar is to obtain new information on one's perspective and consider looking at your own side of the "argument". Two topics that we did in the socratic seminar is what people were thinking when they used racial slurs and the theme of the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. When we did our first socratic seminar, it was nerve-wrecking and I didn't know if I could say everything I wanted with my research. But, I brought up good points, said not too much but not too little, and built off to what another person said but with more details.
