Para aplicar correctamente el principio de justificación de exámenes radiográficos es fundamental la comunicación entre el clínico y el radiólogo maxilofacial.

Realizar una completa historia clínica y médica, y un exhaustivo examen intraoral. 

Solicitar los exámenes radiográficos previos del paciente.

El rol del radiólogo maxilofacial en el proceso de justificación comienza luego que éste recibe la solicitud radiográfica del clínico. También puede recomendar exámenes alternativos que puedan entregar la misma información, pero con menos radiación para el paciente.
