Until he asked Circe to put her under a love spell that would make her fall in love with him,but because of Circe's jealousy of Scylla's beauty she cursed Scylla by putting magical herbs in her bath water.Then Scylla was transformed into the beast she is today with half of her body a woman and the lower part with six tails attached to hound heads.Forever a monster she was forbidden to ever leave her prison(the cave).Some  traditions had different beliefs about who Scylla was loved by and who envied her.According to this story Posiedon was her lover and Amphitrite stole her beauty by doing the same revenge of metamorphosing her into a beast.

"...where she was and, when the first chance came to vent her rage and hate on Circe, robbed Ulixes [Odysseus] of his comrades."(Ovid, Metamorphoses-Roman epic C1st B.C. to C1st A.D.The fact that Scylla ate six of Odysseus's makes her capable of committing evil deeds.Therefore she becomes a monster not because she is no matter a maiden,but because she chose to let Circe's wrong doings anger her and take control of her conscious.That's what makes Scylla a monster.
