Often, it is impossible to determine which two alleles of a gene are present within an organism&#39;s chromosomes based solely on the outward appearance of that organism. However, an allele that is hidden, or not expressed by an organism, can still be passed on to that organism&#39;s offspring and expressed in a later generation. </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>DNA consists of 52 pairs of chromosomes, and each parent passes off one half of each pair to the child. When the two halves of the DNA then join together, the resulting combination determines what specific traits the child has.</div><div><br>The traits that are expressed in the child are determined by dominant and recessive genes. If one or both parents pass on a dominant gene to the child, this is the gene that is expressed. However, if both parents pass on recessive genes, then the recessive gene is expressed.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Genotypic ratios are determined by allelic combinations but phenotypic ratios only deal with the resulting phenotypes and not the specific combinations of allels that cause them. For a Aa X Aa cross you can have a genotypic ratio of 1/4AA:1/2Aa: 1/4 aa but the phenotypic ratio would be 3/4 A: 1/4a as only one of the offspring expresses the phenotype of the a allele and both offspring with AA and Aa genotypes express the phenotype of the A allele (assuming that A is dominant and a is recessive which as I learned in evolution class is actually a pretty big assumption).</title>
