As a parent of an AHS student, I am losing sleep at night fearing that my son will be assigned MOUNTAINS of work all in the name of keeping him "busy". Assigning is not teaching. My hope is that teachers remember that students are juggling 7 classes while also navigating the uncharted waters of distance learning, a global pandemic, poverty, family stress, etc. PLEASE, let's not try to dominate their time. We must be reasonable, compassionate, and understanding. No student should work late into the night on work that has no clear purpose or learning intention.

If it is the case that we cannot record a Zoom session when students are present, we are losing the ability to count their chat responses as participation or even as some types of formative assessments. When Zoom records, it keeps separate files for the video and for the chat. I can see keeping a record of the chat as a way to demonstrate student engagement. Yet if I am not allowed to record, I lose this interaction feature as a means of gauging student learning. So is it the case that under no circumstance can I record the class meeting?

Is there some easy way to share between both performance reporting programs?
*Also, attendance.
Take attendance in Canvas & in Aeries? Ok, but do these programs share info? This seems like double work.
*Why is the disc. pushing Canvas? What are the benefits of integration for a teacher? Students?
*Oh, and finally, all my courses are not listed in Canvas yet.

We are losing focus here. The past two days have covered far too much. Teachers need better information than this to teach successfully. We are lacking leadership in many assets during this time. There should be a much larger focus on what the student will be asked of us and how teachers can make this relevant and basic. Forget the "extras" we are used to performing. We are missing the mark pretty badly with these required trainings.
