While caregiving can be a preferred methods of care for elderly or sick patients. It relieves family members from the stress and burden of having to take care of another person on top of themselves. While there can be care centers that have good ratings and quality workers, there can be concerns about trust within the staff. There have been reported instances of staff mistreating patients and patients not receiving their proper treatment. About 1/3 of the population who seek care in the U.S. have sought out professional care, the other 2/3 have continued to use family support. This says a lot about the healthcare industry as many people feel they cannot trust professionals. The cost of professional caregiving has become extremely high that many families cannot afford to send their loved ones. The factor of Medicaid comes into play as the U.S. has taken a step back on healthcare and it becomes more difficult to send loved ones to those facilities.

The role of caregiving is probably the most stressful job within the healthcare community. There are many physical demands when it comes to caregiving as professionals have to sometimes lift/transfer patients and can have long hours. There are emotional stresses as the behavioral problems and deteriorating health of patients can affect the mental health of workers; when there are unexpected deaths within the facility, caregivers can experience grief causing depression symptoms. Having to perform tasks that are beyond regular/basic training can also come up causing more stressors onto staff. Burnout is one of the most common forms of stress within the caregiving community and is most common with professional caregiving. This can lead to exhaustion, unexpected behavioral outbursts and even can lead to misconduct among patients.
