On a school day, Andjela usually watches 4 episodes of The Office and 2 episodes of Friends for a total of 170 minutes of watch time. On a weekend, Andjela watches 8 episodes of The Office and 4 episodes of Friends for a total watch time of 340 minutes. How long is each episode of Friends, and how long is each episode of The Office? What do the variables mean in this equation?

After finding the equations, I subtracted both equations. I got 4y+0=120. Now I can divide 120 by 4. 120/4 equals 30 minutes. This means that y=30

After finding the value of y, now we have to find the value of x. To do this we substitute y for 30 in one of the equations. I picked the second one. So, we take out y and place 30 instead. After simplifying the equation we get x=25

Now that we know what each variable represents, we should check our answer to make sure we are correct. To check our answer, we input our X and Y values into one or both of our equations. I am going to input the values into the second equation, because I just think it will be faster. After imputing and multiplying the X and Y values, our equation becomes 120+100=220 which is correct! This means that our X and Y values are right!
