For me, without the active interrogation of thinking, we risk doing for doing sake. Outcome and intent is important and reflexively can help ensure a purpose-led approach that ensures valuable outcomes (whatever that means for the participants involved)

I think the thing that differentiates PAR from other qualitative approaches is its intentionality towards social change and justice. This also has ethical implications about how researchers engage with the academy - which interests me. Being outcome driven rather than empirically driven has implications about what questions are asked and what is left unsaid.

I can't say which dimension is most important to me, as I believe they all have a role to play. However, the dimension I'm most curious about is engaging uncertainty and complexity because it requires an emergent approach to research and a trusting in what will unfold. I find this difficult and would love to someday feel a sense of mastery when it comes to engaging uncertainty and complexity.

My research project is focussed on how we can create safe places for people to live, work, and play in the built environment. Often, the built environment is designed and constructed by small groups of experts who do not engage with the broader community outside of tokenistic guestures. Specifically in the topic area of security management, community engagement is incredibly rare. The opportunity to bring community stakeholders into the planning process for security is exciting and could uncover significant new ways of approaching security design.

Given the transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral nature of my research, I require participation of all stakeholder groups, empowerment of those typically without voice on these topics, reflexivity on the part of all participants to really understand their own beliefs and biases that are holding back the collective from maximum impact, social change as the ultimate outcome all stakeholders are seeking (ie a new way of approaching these issues in practice which meets everyone's needs), and uncertainty/complexity given that there will be multiple dynamics within the group and external factors impacting on the work to be done that there will need to be a strong acceptance of adaptability, flexibility, and responsiveness.
