I believe there needs to be an intentional selection of international and global perspectives that allow students to genuinely connect to the experiences, the minds, and the histories of people around the world. When students engage with stories and contexts that mirror or challenge their own, they begin to understand that the world is far more complex, nuanced, and interconnected than they might imagine.

Through this work, they come to see that people separated by oceans and continents often share the same values, struggles, and desires for safety, belonging, opportunity, and dignity. This kind of global learning helps students see themselves not as isolated individuals but as part of a broader human story.

Just noting that what we teach as "theatre" is largely specific to the English-speaking world (also France and Germany). There isn't theatre as we know it in most of Latin/Central/South America. There's more teaching, but limited, of Indian and Japanese theatrical forms and concepts like Rasa. I think our teacher candidates are aware of this and study it in the World Theatre History course, but there's a gap in learning what something is and how these theatrical ideas can be used in production.
