With the internship experiences I carried out in the first year I got some ideas on what makes a nurse a good nurse for me. I met and worked with many competent nurses, each with their own different working method, but the things they had in common were certainly great knowledge, professionalism, humanity and empathy. In my opinion, good nurses know what they are doing and know what their patient needs. In addition to treating patients from a clinical point of view, they take care of their mental state, providing support in the most critical moments, obviously always with professionalism without exceeding the right limit between patient and nurse.

I am sure that I will try to be one of these nurses, continuing to study and learn as much as possible, keeping in mind that the patient is first of all a person, with his own emotions that must be respected.

I chose this path precisely because it makes me feel good to help other people and I think it's a good start to becoming a good nurse.

PETS COME TO VISIT

I would very much like to become a clinical tutor in the future for several reasons.

First of all, in addition to the profession I have chosen, I have always liked teaching and passing on what I know to other people.

Furthermore, being a student now, I know how difficult one sometimes feels during the internship because perhaps one is shy, insecure and has many fears. Having a good tutor by your side is very important because it trains the student in many aspects, in addition to making the student a good nurse, it can help him with his fears and insecurities, accompanying him throughout the process.

I think that in the future I would be a good tutor because I would accompany my student in his internship, trying to teach him what I know with serenity and empathy, and trying to be not only a tutor for him but a friend and his future colleague.

In the internship of these months I feel very lucky because my tutor is very good and I admire her a lot.

She is very young, 36 years old, has a daughter and is very passionate about her profession.

She has a very strong personality, she is determined and confident but at the same time very empathetic and intuitive.

I admire her because in addition to having great knowledge, she pays a lot of attention both towards patients and towards us students. She has great attention spans and is always able to understand what the sick person needs, and is always ready to satisfy their needs. He is also always available to clarify any doubts or questions asked by us students and you can see that he cares a lot about teaching us the trade with a lot of patience.

He is a nurse who knows his abilities very well but at the same time always remains humble.

In particular, the first meeting upon admission is very important because, being the first contact, it can greatly affect the patient's feelings and opinions, which is why it must be very professional and also reassuring.

The first meeting with the patient takes place during hospitalization where we introduce ourselves and welcome the patient to carry out the first tests.

I have the patient sit in the room and to introduce myself I say: "good morning, I'm Beatrice, the nurse who will admit you."

We begin to collect the information we need to know about the patient, i.e. name, surname, age, weight, height, if he has allergies and if he takes medications.

Then the tests required by the department for hospitalization are carried out, in particular in "respiratory diseases", the electrocardiogram, the Covid swab, the oral swab and the rectal swab are carried out.

Finally, if the patient does not have one, a peripheral venous access is positioned and he is accompanied to his room, remaining available.
