Within the Australian context, healthcare contributes to 7% of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions, with pharmaceuticals and hospitals identified as the two largest contributors. Medical imaging and the radiological sciences contribute greatly to many patient diagnostic test pathways. With greater development in technology and more rapidity in scan times, globally there is an increase in the use of medical radiation sciences. As clinicians it is important to look toward more environmentally sustainable practices where we can we reduce our carbon footprint within MRS, whilst not compromising patient centred care.

Towards a purposeful professional learning model for academics to support pedagogical change

Background/context - Professional learning (PL) has become increasingly important for teaching academics as institutions seek improved student experience (Fabriz et al., 2021). Common approaches offer single PL sessions to upskill academics although these are not always effective ways to achieve change in pedagogical practices (Trowler & Cooper, 2002, as cited in Zou, 2019). Community-based PL centered on student outcomes tends to transform teaching and learning rather than transactional sessions focused on improving teachers’ skills and knowledge (Zou, 2019).

The initiative/practice – ACommunity of Practice (CoP) was established to implement a new assessment approach to enhance student outcomes and the pedagogical practices of academics. Participants met weekly to explore the modification of assessments, related learning activities and resources in the design of their subjects.

Methods of evaluative data collection and analysis – A mixed-method, longitudinal research project sought to discern the impact of the CoP on academic practices. In the initial data collection, participant feedback was collected through focus groups and personal reflections. Thematic analysis of transcripts was conducted to qualitatively derive the themes.

Evidence of outcomes and effectiveness - The cross-disciplinary CoP provided an opportunity to share concerns and challenges, a sense of belonging and collegiality, and influenced both subject design and teaching. The outcome of the research validates the use of a CoP model to support pedagogical change in academic practice and aligns with Zou’s (2019) findings of transforming teaching and learning practice.

Improving geological model reporting under the JORC Code

Keywords: Bayesian approximation, Spatial Domain, Uncertainty quantification, JORC

The Australian Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) code guides public reporting to ensure effective communication of exploration and mining results. The JORC Code is also used in other jurisdictions. Recent insights of report compliance have highlighted issues (AIG, 2021; McManus et al., 2021; Sterk et al., 2019).

All three reviews focused on different aspects but commonly found that the “if not, why not” nature of the Code was mostly ignored in public reporting of mining projects. For example, one review found that no reports used quantitative assessments of the geological interpretation or mineral resource estimation envelopes, with some not addressing the quality of geological interpretation. Reports that did address interpretation quality used 19 different terms to communicate it. To reduce ambiguity in public reporting, it is essential to either reduce the possible terms that can be used to communicate quality or to quantify it.

Uncertainty assessment of spatial domains is required for compliance reporting to stock exchanges. There are a number of computational methods of assessing uncertainty that can be applied, but are rarely used, it is important that a body of literature highlight examples for industry acceptance. Recently, machine learning techniques (Bayesian approximation) have been used to assess the interpretation uncertainty of spatial domains. To improve its use in early-stage projects fast and cost effective pXRF data has also been compared favourably with ICP.

Recent work has also compared geostatistical simulation and machine learning to determine if the methods assess similar uncertainties. It was found that they highlight different uncertainties in geological models.

This poster highlights recent computational applications for use in industry to assess geological interpretation uncertainty, improve compliance with JORC and other public reporting codes, and facilitate communication of geological models' quality to both public investors and downstream users of mineral resource estimates.

Experiences of people living in the community with pressure injuries: A scoping reviewDr Michelle Kersten, Anna Markowski, Dr Kristy Coxon,Charles Sturt University Western Sydney University Introduction: Occupational therapists face dilemmas on how to concurrently support engagement in occupations, while promoting recovery for community-dwelling people living with pressure injuries. Interventions are often nursing focused, oriented toward hospital contexts, and focused on biomedical constructs of prevention and healing. Understanding individual experiences with pressure injury in the community is required to inform occupational therapy practice. Objectives: To describe published studies exploring the experiences of community-dwelling people living with pressure injury.Method: Six databases including MEDLINE and CINAHL were searched. Included studies described the experiences of community-dwelling with experience living with pressure injuries. Studies were excluded if the context were hospital inpatient or residential care. Results: The search revealed 1421 unique records, 52 were reviewed by full text and 15 met the inclusion criteria. Most studies involved qualitative research methodology (n=14/15). Collectively, papers reported data from over 700 people with pressure injury from the United States, Europe, Australia and Canada. However, some papers reported data from the same cohort across multiple papers. Over a third of studies reported on pressure injuries in people with spinal cord injury. Main findings explore experiences of living with pressure injury on activity limitation, pain, quality of life, and management. Conclusion: There is a paucity of research exploring the experiences of individuals living with pressure injury in the community. As much of the literature focuses on people with spinal cord injury, occupational therapists should consider a comprehensive approach to understanding the experience of their patients with pressure injury, until further research can inform practice.

The aim of this research is to better understand young peoples’ experiences in accessing mental health services in rural New South Wales. This critical and longstanding issue requires the generation of new approaches, something best achieved through creative research and by engaging with the youth voice.

We have a desire to problematise dominant concepts of youth mental health service delivery and push towards yet-to-be imagined ideas. A single case (Morgan) will be presented to create discussion about the application of non-binary thinking to health care.

The impact of sport and physical activity on health in rural Australian communities

Dr Chelsea Litchfield, Professor Rylee Dionigi, Dr Jaquelyn Osborne, Dr Sophie Meredith, Dr Marissa Samuelson, Dr Kelsey Richards and Ruth Crawford, School of Allied Health, Exercise & Sports Sciences

Sport and physical activity play a significant role in fostering the social, emotional and physical health of individuals and communities. Simultaneously, sport and physical activity are contexts where people and groups can be marginalised or excluded based on their gender, cultural or racial background, sexuality, body type or age, particularly in rural areas where access to sport and physical activity can be limited. Our research focuses on the extent to which access to and experiences in physical activity and/or sport impact on individuals’ physical, social and emotional health. The findings of our research have implications for sport and physical activity participation and promotion/policy for marginalised groups in rural and remote communities, particularly for those who may feel marginalised and/or excluded in this context. Therefore, effective establishment of viable alternatives that foster a sense of belonging and promote health in rural or remote Australia requires strategies based on a deep understanding of the needs of individuals in these communities, as well as the cultural and social contexts in which people live.

New Research Group – Human Adaptation, Exercise and Health (RG-HAEH) – FoR code 4207

Frank Marino, Rylee Dionigi, Chelsea Litchfield, Jaquelyn Osborne, Melissa Skein, Jack Cannon, Michael Chang, Kerry Mann, Gavin Buzza, Praneel Titheradge

School of Allied Health, Exercise & Sports Sciences

The maintenance of active lifestyles and mental health is inextricably linked to how we manage climate change. A recent review of the status of mental health, suicide and climate change indicates that there is consistency in the association between temperatures above 37°C and suicide rates across both middle-income and developed countries (Dumont et al. 2020). Physical exercise is associated with a reduction in all measures of mental health problems and suicidality in a dose-response manner (Grasdalsmoen, et al, 2020). Exercise, sport and physical activity participation forms an integral part of Australian culture, which provides many physical, social and mental health benefits. However, as we move towards a climate which is increasingly warmer, human physical activity may be challenged by additional heat load and the benefits we currently enjoy may be severely curtailed. As such, we need to understand and prepare for the consequences of a warmer environment if we wish to continue our current exercise, sport and physical activity practices. This group offers ideas from complimentary areas such as management, physiology, biology, evolutionary science, sociology, history and the health sector.

Dumont, C., Haase, E., Dolber, T., Lewis, J., & Coverdale, J.
