Yesterday during class, the teacher asked about what we thought Noise meant in English Language and Literature. I said that Noise is the absence of Meaning and the presence of Sound. My answer was epic. The teacher told me to write it down in my Padlet so, here I am.

IB DP - First Impressions Fears and Concerns

My first impressions of IB - Before starting the school year I thought it was going to be extremly hard and burdening however now that we have started learning it dosen't seem so hard. I think if I listen during class and do my work on time I'll be able to pass the year with good grades and not too much stress. However, that might just be because summative assesments, tests and essays have not started yet. As of right now I am feeling pretty hopefull and optimistic so, let's hope I can keep up with my work and stay that way.

Character Analysis of Richard Parker from “Life of Pi”.

Richard Parker is the Bengal tiger who becomes Pi’s unexpected companion and symbol throughout the novel. On the surface, he represents a real, physical threat. A powerful predator Pi must constantly fear and manage to survive. Yet as the story unfolds, Richard Parker also becomes a symbol of Pi’s primal instincts, his will to live, and the darker, animal side of human nature that emerges in extreme circumstances.

Their relationship evolves from fear and dominance to mutual dependence. By taming and coexisting with Richard Parker, Pi learns discipline, courage, and emotional strength. When the tiger walks away at the end without a backward glance, it reflects both the end of Pi’s survival ordeal and the separation between his human self and the animal instinct that kept him alive.

Ultimately, Richard Parker embodies the duality of man and beast, showing that survival often depends on embracing the wildness within.

“You taste its quality” by Coca Cola

The attached image is a photo of a Coca Cola print advertisement from 1942, its purpose is to persuade the audience into buying and/or trying for the first time a Coca Cola or as the AD pushes the viewer to use; “Coke”. The AD was published in 1942 towards the end of World War II when the idea of gender roles and the traditional woman was the symbol of a happiness, family, innocence and general good. So, naturally like in many advertisements at the time a pretty, young, in-shape woman is shown enjoying the product. Although Coca Cola is inherently unhealthy, a healthy and pretty, young woman enjoying the product gave it the appearance of innocence and healthiness.

The AD’s title “You taste its quality” printed at the top of the AD, appeals to the readers senses and gives an idea of the products excellence being undeniable.

The price is also listed clearly on the AD as 5 cents, showing off the products competitive market pricing in the same advertisement in which it flexes its high quality. The repetition of the phrase “it is the real thing” is something which occurs commonly during WW2 and post WW2 advertisements, which tells us that people in that era had a worry of their things being ‘artificial’ and/or ‘not the real thing’ or ‘low quality’ probably also due to globalization and free trade which means a lot of low quality products present in the market.
