Por hacer (To Do)

En proceso (In Progress)

Hecho (Done)

No dirigí, solo acompañé.

Sharing My Agile Teaching Experience – Chemistry Lesson Reflection

Lesson Topic:
Acids and Bases – Exploring pH through Everyday Substances

Design & Implementation Process

In redesigning this lesson through an Agile lens, I shifted from a traditional lecture–lab format to a student-driven sprint model. The process involved:

Sprint Planning: Students were introduced to the goal—investigating acids and bases in everyday life—and created mini-task boards for their groups.

Iteration: Over two class periods, students conducted hands-on experiments testing the pH of household items using litmus paper and cabbage indicator.

Stand-Ups: We held short check-ins where students shared results and adjusted their plans.

Retrospective: Each group reflected on what worked, what didn’t, and how they could improve in the next investigation.

Challenges

The most challenging aspect was helping students manage their time and delegate tasks within their groups. Some students initially struggled with the freedom Agile offers—they wanted step-by-step instructions rather than co-owning the learning process.

Learner Reactions

Once they understood the structure, students responded with excitement and curiosity. They appreciated being able to choose substances to test and design part of their own process. I noticed increased engagement and collaboration, especially among students who are usually quiet in traditional lessons.

What Surprised Me Most

What surprised me most was how quickly students adapted to reflective thinking. The retrospective at the end sparked meaningful conversations—not just about chemistry, but about how they worked together and what they’d do differently next time. They took ownership of their learning in a way I hadn’t seen before.

Final Thoughts

This small shift toward Agile transformed how my classroom functioned. The combination of autonomy, iteration, and collaboration made learning more dynamic. I look forward to applying Agile to other chemistry topics and connecting with fellow educators exploring this approach.

I redesigned a Grade 10 Biology project using Scrum and Kanban. Students worked in teams, used a Kanban board to track tasks, participated in short stand-up meetings, and reflected on their progress at the end of each sprint.

The most challenging aspect was helping students adjust to taking more responsibility for their own learning and managing their tasks independently. Initially, some students expected the teacher to direct every step.

My learners reacted positively to the redesigned lesson. They were more engaged, communicated more frequently, and showed greater ownership of their work. The Kanban board helped them visualize progress and stay organized.

What surprised me most was how quickly students adapted to collaborative decision-making and problem-solving. Several students who were usually quiet became active contributors when given clear team responsibilities.

Designing this lesson meant trading rigid plans for student-led iterations. Balancing strict timeboxes was challenging, but learners reacted with vibrant enthusiasm, finding their voices through rapid experimentation. Their immediate resilience to failure surprised me most. Let’s connect to share experiences and build our collaborative educator Agile network!

1. Penerapan Rencana Pembelajaran (Lesson Plan)

Saya merancang ulang proyek kelompok mata pelajaran Sains/Biologi dengan memanfaatkan papan Kanban (menggunakan Trello / Padlet / Google Docs Kanban) dan siklus kerja berulang (sprint).

Siswa dibagi menjadi beberapa tim untuk menyelesaikan satu topik proyek. Alur kerja (workflow) di papan Kanban dibagi menjadi empat kolom utama:

To Do (Akan Dikerjakan): Daftar seluruh tugas proyek yang dipecah menjadi kartu-kartu kecil.

In Progress (Sedang Dikerjakan): Maksimal 2–3 tugas per tim agar fokus (WIP limit).

2. Refleksi Pengalaman Pembelajaran

Tingkat komunikasi antaranggota tim meningkat drastis karena mereka mengadakan stand-up meeting singkat (2–3 menit) setiap awal sesi kelas.
