-The boy must have never found his parents. The man who me he met would have taken the child to his house and try making the boy trust him and then lived together.

The boys parents Would go there looking for their son after searching around the place. 
So, eventually the boy would be reunited with his parents.

2) The man took the boy to the lost and found department but his parents never came. So the man leaves the boy at the orphanage as he couldn't take him with himself, as he keeps travelling around a lot. The boy finds a family who adopts him but he remains curious about his  original parents.

The man trying to act nice to the child , was merely a kidnapper. He wanted the child to trust on him to unite the child with his parents. The man , takes the child with him and sells the child as a slave.

The parents would complaint to police and after the investigation of the police the lost child could be united with is parents. This is how to ending should be if I have given a chance to recreate it.
