Sara was born in 1927. She lived in a small town near Athens, Greece, called Chalkis. Sara had a sister and they were both raised by their mother. Her father had passed away when she was 2 months old. Sara and her family celebrated being Jewish even though they identified as 100% Greek.

Escaping

Sara heard about the German coming to her home town in 1941. She knew she had to leave when she heard other Jews were being deported. Sara and her mother went to a different village to get away. Sara soon left her mother to try and escape, but then she decided to become an andarte (resistance fighter).

Sara's own group of partisans

Sara soon formed her own group of female partisans. She went to different villages to recruit other women who wanted to fight. They transformed young girls into women. Sara and her group went on their first mission with the male partisans and the males were impressed. The males invited them to more missions but they never gave the females credit. The women were forced to sleep next to the men and Sara was worried about the females.

Sara became important and she was well-respected. When Sara was 18 she was known as Captain Sarika. The Nazis found out about her and they sent someone after her. The person who was after her mistakenly arrested and murdered her cousin, Medi. Sara wanted revenge. She went after the person who mistakenly killed her cousin and killed him too.

After the war

After the war, Sara was arrested but was released shortly after. Then she moved to Israel, met her husband, and settled down.
