MODULE 1:So, what exactly does "literacy" mean today?

In this module I looked at "digital literacy" for me was realizing what goes on in a video game.

“In-game choices and feedback, along with out-of-game conversations, similar to above…require layers to read print text, interpret images and sound, consider cause and effect, develop, explain a rationale for moves, and recognize the relationship among all the elements of a game’s design” (Abram & Gerber, 2014).

MODULE 4:Critical Literacy

The empowerment I felt by Harste's article and the involvement of 'sign system'. Crossing over the curriculums and involving one with another. I found the Sketch to Sketch a really engaging situation to use in a classroom. Also, Dinkens article integrating poetry and basketball together was an excellent source of knowledge that made me change my way of writing and critical literacy. Luck (2011) was a good talk.

Parson’s (2014) article is a motivational speech for me to empower my past, present and future I need to become comfortable with exploring ideas of English within my PE athletic classroom. Having student’s research and write about influential athletes or a sport that a student has interest in would be a good connection between the two areas. This

MODULE 6: Games, graphic novels and digital comics

Carrye article begins with the first important question of what graphic novels are stating “graphic novels are books written and illustrated in the style of a comic book”...“the story is told using a combination of words and pictures in a sequence across the page” (Carry, 2013). What I appreciate about this quote is that it explains to the reader that a graphic novel is not only a book that is tells a story but also it is the format that makes the story. Through this module I realized the importance of graphic novel in getting students to enjoy reading and pleasure and this enjoyment will carry over into other reading material.

MODULE 7: Teaching writing

This empowered me to write in a journal myself for distressing and to get other to realize the importance of it. I coach a basketball team and next session I will have those players be accountable to journal writing. “A key to athletes’ writing is its authenticity” (Kent 2014).

MODULE 8: Writing Part Two

Barbara Walters quote got me intrigued in this Module

"A woman (indeed, a man as well, I would add) can do anything. She can be traditionally feminine and that's all right; she can work; she can stay at home; she can be passive; she can be aggressive, she can be any way she wants."

The options for women are limitless and that is shown in the readings from 'roller blading to writing like a good girl' that options are always available.
