Beginning : Preparation

In the beginning it wasn't always easy to start and form the group with someone we haven't known much about yet. It was very thrilling. It felt like a challenge accepted. It started off really awkward, but with personal mission topics and bonds are created. I felt so excited to see and expect what's coming. I had so many exciting ideas for this personal mission. It was June at that time so my group and I don't usually meet up or have any meetings for discussion until we finally got our supervising teacher.

It's finally August and we all started to gather with the supervising teacher. It's when everyone started to prepare the proposals and all other kinds of preparations such as the consumptions, activities, ingredients, and many more. My group started listing the kinds of stuff we needed to buy and our budget.

After we finished all the proposals, schedules and all the other things, including items that we needed to buy, we gathered at Dathan's house and packed up all the goodie bags, rewards and the groceries that are donated to the Orphanage.

Day 1

On day one of Youth in Mission, my group went to Yayasan Sosial Tangan Kasih, in Tangerang. I was so excited but also scared and anxious in the same time since it was the first day and first time doing Youth in Mission and I really don't know what to expect. I was anxious that it won't go on according to the schedule and activities I made. It was 12.00 PM and I was on the way there.

I finally arrived and just then, I saw a group of second year there. I was in panic since it was just the first day but I decided to calm myself down and to discuss with that other group of second year. Thankfully, my group's schedule and activities weren't ruined since they the second-year group) didn't have any specific activities/games at that time.

We had our opening with some short praise and worship session and a bible verse. After that, we started to form them into groups and they had competitions such as drawing competition and galasin. Next, we also had a trivia.

It truly is a great relief to see the kids enjoying the activities and everyone is excited to win. Seeing them being initiative really warms my heart too.

Day 2

Day two came and I was still very excited but also sad in the same time. At that day, we're still visiting Yayasan Sosial Tangan Kasih. The kids there were all still excited for all the activities. It really warms my heart to see that turns out happiness is really that simple.

Here at day two, we made sandwiches together and also some art and craft. After that, we also did some mini quiz. I'm so happy to see them excited.

After we finished all the rundowns, we finally had our closing and farewell. It was really sad. I really feel like I have saw another side of the world there. Where everything is really that simple, warmth, family and happiness.

Lastly, all I felt from those two days were joy and relief. It is such a joy to see the kids there having fun and were all out for the activities we prepared. I felt like all the struggles my group and I had were all worth it. It was just the first day but from there, I can truly understand the meaning of the joy and blessings we feel from serving.

Day 3

The next day arrived! It's day three and this time, my group went to TK Taman Indria which is also located in Tangerang. I didn't expect much at first, all I prayed for is just for the rundown to be in order. Turns out, everything on day three actually goes on very smoothly. Everything was much more neat and in order since there were also teachers there. It is a school after all. The students were very cute but way much more calm and shy compared to the kids in Yayasan Sosial Tangan Kasih. We served in TK Taman Indria for two days too but with the same activities only different class.

We had some art and craft session and also making oobleck which is some sort of liquid that could turn hard when we give it some strong pressure (when we hit it). We also shared goodie bags.

Day 4

It's day four and we returned to TK Taman Indria. We had the same rundown and activities like we had on the first day. The students in this class is a bit less and also not as active as the other class from the previous day. We made art and craft of planets, and an experience of oobleck just like the activities at day three.

It's finally the last day for us to serve in TK Taman Indria and we're actually really sad too but still, it couldn't beat how memorable Yayasan Sosial Tangan Kasih was.

Day 5

Last but not least, it's the last day, day five. I wasn't expecting much until chaos happened. When I arrived, there were two other groups there. Three groups including us got confused and panicked. Our rundowns crashed into one another. Luckily, the teacher really helped us out to organize everything and it went well although a bit messy. We shared lunch to them. Next, we also teach them the 7 presidents of Indonesia and finally, we had a sensory play which is making an oobleck.

When we're done and the kids went home, we had a short sharing session with the teacher. There, we actually realized so many things throughout the whole week. It's not only we become a blessing to others, but by serving we also feel blessed. I truly thank God for His guidance throughout the whole process of this personal mission.

I could say, it was a whole roller coaster but this personal mission will be a core memory for me. It is where we fight together, struggle and also bond with each other. We support each other and we did all that with a sincere heart. From this personal mission, I've seen so many bright sides of my own classmates (my personal mission group members). It was really great that everyone is all out for this personal mission. I can really feel that we're actually serving and not doing this just as a project from school. To serve truly brings joy in me.
