I just completed this task with my grade 8/9 ICT class and they had so much fun! Students were shocked at how their brain and hands created shapes, lines and textures from beats. Some students even took the challenge afterwards to listen to the beats music while working independently creating their video games.

-Kelly Nichols

Kelly, I'm so glad this activity was effective in getting your students to think about their learning in new ways. I often find with my younger 3/4 students that binaural beats help them focus during their independent reading period. The connections they make are astounding!
-Jocelynn Mortlock

This is a pretty interesting topic as I used to listen to music quite regularly while studying in undergrad but instead of binaural beats, I utilized music in foreign languages in which I was not fluent in. I found that I enjoyed the music but did could not recognize any words so there was no distraction. I simply was able to disengage and focus on the task at hand which is similar to the point of binaural beats. Perhaps I'll start playing this in my classroom!
-Michael Bui

I was driving to work yesterday when one of my favourite songs came on, and inside I let out a loud "YES!" and then started tapping the beat on my steering wheel.

There is something about a favourite song that just resonates us. Sometimes it takes us back to a time or place, and other times it just feels so right.

My experience with the first activity was the most memorable. It is interesting how eating something fairly common can be a very different experienced when approached in a different manner. This different perspective of eating leads me to wonder about other, somewhat mundane tasks in life. How can retrieving the mail be a more memorable experience if approached in a more appreciative manor.

Very interesting activity! Knowing that doodling has a greater effect on note takers vs. typing notes, it is interesting to see how this affects the areas of the brain that are attentive and creative.
When I need to work and focus, I need music to concentrate and usually will listen to the same song on repeat. It allows my brain to loop back if I forget something. I'm not sure how common this is though!
-Cristina

This is very thought provoking. Is my doodling matching aspects of the music/beats or is the music/beats allowing other things to happen?

I do find myself shifting at certain points or when I hear certain sounds, but other times it seems to just be a sound track to what I am doing.

Doodles started out to be geometric, but then shifted into a continuous line design - similar to an etch-a-sketch :).
Jon

The soundtrack on this page didn't really affect my doodles in any appreciable way but I do find I concentrate and calm down a lot after listening to my favourite songs.
I also really enjoy the mindfullness eating activity in my normal life when I am snacking and have time to methodically analyse tastes, textures, and flavours.
Great activities!
